This article explores the legal implications and related laws of a hypothetical scenario where someone uses a quantum computer to steal Bitcoin.

The debate surrounding the quantumization of Bitcoin often veers off-topic because people are always discussing two distinct issues simultaneously.

One issue is technical: If quantum computing is powerful enough to crack Bitcoin's signature mechanism, how can the protocol respond? For example, new address types, migration rules, soft forks, abandonment mechanisms, key rotation, etc. This is indeed an engineering problem, but it remains an engineering problem.

The other issue is legal: Suppose someone uses a quantum computer to derive the private key of an old wallet and steals the Bitcoin within. What does this actually mean? Has he recovered abandoned property, or has he stolen someone else's Bitcoin?

In April 2026, the BIP-361 proposal recommended freezing over 6.5 million Bitcoins stored in quantum-vulnerable UTXOs, including an estimated 1 million Bitcoins associated with Satoshi Nakamoto. This is no longer just an abstract discussion, but a real struggle about ownership, forfeiture, and the meaning of property in a system that ultimately recognizes only control.

I don't intend to comment here on when a quantum computer capable of attacking Bitcoin will appear. The more specific question is paramount: if it does appear, and someone begins using quantum keys to transfer long-dormant Bitcoin, will the law consider it legitimate recovery or theft?

Ali indicated that this price move represents a significant structural shift. The analyst indicated that Ethereum flipping the $2,385 into a support floor neutralizes recent sell signals and might suggest a major trend continuation.

With the overhead supply cleared, Ali stated that the technical objective for this formation is now $2,900. As long as Ethereum holds above the breakout zone at $2,385, the advantage will continue to tilt toward bulls.

Ethereum short-term price action

Ethereum rose to a high of $2,466 on April 17, extending its recovery from a March 29 low of $1,937. $ETH's price faced resistance at this level as sellers sought to halt the recovery. Bulls continued to press in and did not allow $ETH's price to dip below $2,300.

If $ETH's price continues to hold above the highlighted $2,385 level, the recovery may extend to $2,900, then to $3,050. Such a move suggests that Ethereum may have bottomed out at $1,742.

This bullish view will be invalidated in the near term if the price turns down sharply and breaks $2,300. That would suggest the recent rise might have been a bull trap. $ETH could then decline to the $1,916 level.
