Sui, a layer-1 blockchain Network native token ($SUI) surged nearly 13% today, climbing above $1.08 with a market cap of $4.35 billion. Making Sui token one of the strongest-performing major altcoins in the market.

The rally comes while Bitcoin and most major altcoins continue trading sideways. Many traders are now wondering if the reason why $SUI token price went up today?

Institutional Staking Creates Supply Shock

One of the biggest catalysts behind today’s rally came from institutional accumulation and staking activity. $SUI Group Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed company, moved its entire 108.7 million $SUI holdings from DeFi protocols into direct staking.

That amount represents roughly 2.7% of $SUI’s circulating supply.

The move significantly reduced the amount of liquid $SUI available on exchanges, tightening available supply while demand increased.

This matters even more because nearly 74% of the total $SUI supply is already staked, meaning only a limited percentage of tokens remain actively tradable in the market.

As fewer tokens become available for selling, buying pressure can push prices higher much faster during periods of rising demand.

Short Liquidations Fuel Price Explosion

Another major driver behind the rally came from derivatives liquidations. Following the staking news, the $SUI market recorded approximately $3.13 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours.

Notably, nearly 90% of those liquidations around $2.91 million came from short traders betting against the rally.

When short positions get liquidated, exchanges automatically buy back assets to close those trades, creating additional upward buying pressure.

At the same time, trading volume surged nearly 90% to around $808 million. This sharp increase in trading activity shows traders are aggressively entering the market again.

Despite the negative record seen last week, the $XRP ETFs have shown signs of recovery as the broader crypto market sees sentiment flip to extremely bullish, sparking notable demand from institutional investors.

While the $XRP ETF market recovery has followed a notable increase in the price of $XRP in the last seven days, it appears that institutional investors have become more optimistic about the asset's future price potential.

Hence, they have doubled down on their investments in the $XRP-based investment product. As such, the $XRP funds have achieved a combined inflow of $28.17 million in the past week.

While this comes after a week of extremely low performance, this marks the first and highest weekly inflow recorded by the $XRP ETFs in May.

With this resurgence in institutional demand, $XRP has continued to show signs of a potential price breakout as it has traded consistently above the $1.40 zone over the period.

What's next for $XRP in May?
While the last month proved to be a strong breakout month for $XRP following the prolonged volatility seen in the previous months, the asset has retained the bullish momentum in May.

As such, market watchers have become highly optimistic for a bigger price move in May as $XRP has traded mainly on the upside so far this month.

With the asset currently hovering around $1.40 as of the time of writing, analysts have predicted that the asset could hit the $2 mark before the month runs out.

So far this year, there haven’t been any rate cuts. Inflation stayed above the Fed’s 2% target in early Q1, which kept expectations for cuts low.

Then the West Asia crisis in March pushed inflation up to 3.3%, the strongest monthly reading since May 2024, further reducing the chances of rate cuts.Against this backdrop, a strong jobs report sparked a market reaction. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the US economy added 115,000 jobs in April, well above expectations of 65,000.

Unemployment came in at 4.3%, in line with forecasts. In short, the U.S. labor market is still holding up well, with job gains beating expectations and unemployment staying steady at forecast levels.

Ethereum has moved higher with the broader crypto market this week, but its rebound is now facing a technical test that may decide whether the move has real strength or only a reflection of Bitcoin’s momentum.

A recent technical outlook points to a shortfall on the ETH daily candlestick chart, as the price continues to stall below the upper end of its rising channel despite repeated attempts to extend the rally.

Ethereum’s Rally Is Showing A Shortfall
Technical analysis of the Ethereum daily candlestick timeframe chart shows that Ethereum has been trading inside a rising channel since February 2026. This is a structure that, in theory, should allow bulls to progressively push the price toward its upper boundary.

The structure has produced a sequence of higher lows, which is usually a good sign. However, the problem is that ETH has not matched that strength on the upper side of the pattern, at least in May.

According to a crypto analyst that goes by the name Ardi on the social media platform X, the channel’s upper boundary currently is around $2,520, but ETH’s recent advances have repeatedly stalled around $2,420. That leaves the price about 6% below the channel high, creating a shortfall.

The daily structure is also not fully bullish. While ETH has reclaimed its short- and medium-term moving averages, the 200-day EMA is still above the current price, meaning the recovery is still incomplete.

The concern becomes more serious because Bitcoin has already achieved what Ethereum has not. The Bitcoin price has reached the upper side of its own channel structure to create a higher high around $81,000, meaning Bitcoin has been leading the market rally more cleanly.
