Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson used a Wednesday keynote at Consensus 2026 in Miami to argue that crypto’s next phase will not be won by another isolated chain, token or wallet. The Cardano founder said the industry must make self-custody, identity, privacy and multi-chain access simple enough for mainstream users without handing control back to centralized intermediaries.

Hoskinson framed the problem bluntly: crypto still asks users to manage seed phrases, navigate exchanges, wait for withdrawals, choose between networks, avoid fake apps and understand DeFi risk before they can do anything useful. That, he said, remains the core barrier to bringing “the next few billion people” into the industry.

“The number one problem that people say again and again and again when they think about cryptocurrencies, whether you’re an experienced user and you’ve been in the industry a long time or you’re a completely new person, you’ve heard about the industry is, I’m gonna fuck it up. The safety side,” Hoskinson said. “That is the user experience in 2026. That make any sense to you? Is this like a product you wanna use?”

Cardano Founder Targets Crypto’s UX Problem

His answer was not to abandon crypto’s original principles, but to make them usable. Hoskinson contrasted crypto’s current experience with Web2 products such as Google Wallet, which he said has around 1.5 billion users and trains consumers to expect one-click setup, recovery and seamless mobile access. Crypto, in his view, cannot keep insisting it is “different” if the product experience remains too punishing for ordinary users.

Banking trade groups criticize Clarity Act for stablecoin loopholes

The American Bankers Association, the Bank Policy Institute, and allied trade groups are sounding the alarm over a provision buried in the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act that they say creates a backdoor for crypto platforms to offer yield on stablecoins.

The concern is straightforward: if stablecoin issuers can effectively pay interest under a different name, traditional bank deposits become a lot less attractive.

Section 404 of the CLARITY Act is the specific flashpoint. It permits stablecoin issuers to offer rewards based on a holder's balance and the duration they hold, which, to the banking industry, looks an awful lot like paying interest without calling it interest.

According to ABC News, the agreement would resolve a lawsuit filed by the U.S.
Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission against TikTok and its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The lawsuit accused TikTok of failing to protect the privacy of children under the age of 13 by illegally collecting and storing personal information without parental consent. U.S. officials claimed that millions of minors used standard TikTok accounts for years, allowing the platform to gather data in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The Justice Department alleged that TikTok knowingly allowed children to create regular accounts, upload videos, and communicate with other users while collecting sensitive information from those accounts. Regulators said the company did not take adequate measures to obtain parental permission before collecting data from young users. ABC News also reported that settlement funds could potentially support President Donald Trump's Washington, D.C. "beautification" initiatives.
Sources familiar with the discussions said officials debated whether the money could legally help finance projects such as a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery. Trump has reportedly requested $10 billion from Congress for infrastructure and redevelopment projects in the capital region. Neither the White House nor the Justice Department provided detailed comments on the reported settlement discussions. TikTok also declined to publicly respond. The legal battle comes as ByteDance continues efforts to strengthen TikTok's U.S. operations. Earlier this year, the company finalized a majority American-owned joint venture aimed at securing U.

The strongest week during this rally brought in nearly $1 billion in inflows, while the latest week alone added over $622 million. This sustained momentum highlights growing confidence among investors who continue accumulating Bitcoin through regulated financial products.

However, the week ended with noticeable outflows on Thursday and Friday, suggesting that traders became cautious ahead of important US economic data, especially the Non-Farm Payrolls report. Analysts believe uncertainty around the labor market, interest rates, and geopolitical tensions near the Strait of Hormuz contributed to the sudden slowdown.

At the same time, Bitcoin briefly dropped below the $80,000 level, increasing volatility across the crypto market. Liquidation heatmaps indicate that the $78,000 zone remains a critical support area, while strong short positions between $82,000 and $83,000 continue creating pressure on price action.

Meanwhile, Spot Ether ETFs also returned to positive territory, recording more than $70 million in weekly inflows after previously seeing outflows. This recovery suggests that investor appetite for digital assets remains active even during periods of market stress.

The current ETF inflow trend is being closely watched because many analysts consider institutional money flow one of the most important indicators for Bitcoin’s long-term direction. If inflows continue in the coming weeks, market sentiment could strengthen further across the entire crypto sector.
