Its existence is inspired by the ironic undertones of a 2013 YouTube video titled “The Next Bitcoin?” by James D. McMurray, also known within the crypto community as Buttoshi. The project was created with the explicit aim of poking fun at the hype surrounding cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, and drawing attention to the sometimes ludicrous nature of investment behaviour in this space.

At its core, $BUTTCOIN serves as a meme token—an asset designed primarily for amusement, rather than serious investment.
