Key Bitcoin price levels to watch ahead of 2025’s last FOMC meeting

Abstract

Bitcoin's price faced rejection near the $94,000 resistance level ahead of the final 2025 FOMC meeting. Markets anticipate a 96.8% probability of a 25 basis point rate cut, but analysts warn that bullish effects may already be priced in. Attention is focused on Fed Chair Jerome Powell's post-meeting speech, as hawkish signals could trigger a sell-off. Key resistance levels include the 50-day SMA at $98,000 and the psychological $100,000 barrier. A break above $93,300 is needed to target higher gains. Support rests at $91,500, with a break below potentially leading to declines toward $87,500 or even $84,000. Liquidity clusters between $93,000-$96,000 may influence price movements post-announcement.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) price failed another attempt at breaking above resistance at $94,000 on Tuesday as volatility hit the market ahead of the Fed rate cut decision on Wednesday.

Key takeaways:

  • The odds of a 25 bps cut on Dec. 10 now stand at 96%, according to Polymarket

  • BTC price may drop as low as $84,000 if key support levels are broken.

96% chances of a 25 basis points cut

The year’s last US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) two-day meeting began on Tuesday, with the policy decision on interest rates expected on Wednesday at 2:00 pm pm ET.

Market participants expect the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates by 0.25%, marking its third cut of the year.

Polymarket shows a 96.8% chance that interest rates will be cut to between 3.50% and 3.75%, with a 3% probability that the rates will remain unchanged.

However, any bullish price action from reduced interest rates is likely already priced in.

Bitcoin was retreating toward $92,000 on Wednesday as fears mounted that Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s speech after the meeting could put the market back on shaky ground.

“Yesterday’s weak jobs data knocked rate-cut hopes slightly and rattled TradFi markets; all eyes now on the Fed and wage data,” Bitcoin analyst AlphaBTC said in a Wednesday post on X, adding:

“If the Fed surprises hawkishly or wages stay firm, expect another sell-off.”

Therefore, the market will keenly watch Powell’s language at the FOMC news conference to see if there is any shift in tone.

Right now, the market is pricing a “25bps rate cut, but the real drama will come from Jerome Powell’s speech,” market commentator Wess said on Tuesday.

Key Bitcoin price levels to watch

Bitcoin must flip the yearly support at $93,300 into support to target higher highs above $100,000.

For this to happen, BTC/USD must first regain its position above the 50-day simple moving average (yellow line) at $98,000.

The $100,000 psychological level is important for BTC price because repeated rejections from this point could lead to another sell-off, as seen in February.

Above that, a major supply zone extends all the way to $108,000, where the 200-day SMA is located. This trendline was lost on Nov. 3 for the first time since April 22.

Bulls will also have to overcome this barrier in order to increase the chances of BTC’s run to $110,000.

Conversely, the bears will attempt to maintain the $94,000-yearly open resistance level, thereby increasing the likelihood of new lows below $90,000.

A key area of interest lies between $90,000 and the previous range lows at $87,500, reached on Sunday. Below that, the next move would be a retest of the Nov. 21 lows of $84,000, erasing all the gains made over the last three weeks.

Bitcoin analyst AlphaBTC eyed BTC’s rally toward $98,000, warning a drop below $91,000 would be catastrophic for the market.

“But Bitcoin must hold 91.5K now IMO, otherwise we will see blood in the streets.”

The Bitcoin liquidation heatmap reveals a large liquidity cluster between $93,000 and $96,000. Below the spot price, the area to watch is $91,500.

U.S. Stablecoin Regulatory Framework Finalized, Global Crypto Finance Enters New Institutionalized Phase

The United States has enacted its first federal regulatory framework for stablecoins, marking a pivotal moment for the global cryptocurrency industry. This framework transitions stablecoins from a state of fragmented oversight to a unified federal system, establishing clear legal definitions and operational standards for dollar-pegged payment stablecoins. Key provisions mandate that stablecoin issuers must hold high-quality liquid assets—such as cash and short-term U.S. Treasury securities—as reserves. They are also required to comply with strict auditing, transparency, risk management, and consumer protection rules. The regulatory structure adopts a dual approach: larger issuers will be overseen at the federal level, while smaller ones may fall under state jurisdiction. This development is expected to significantly enhance the role of stablecoins like USDC and USDT as critical infrastructure for cross-border payments, settlements, and decentralized finance (DeFi). By providing legal certainty, the framework is likely to encourage greater adoption by traditional financial institutions, payment companies, and fintech firms, integrating stablecoins more deeply into the mainstream financial system. However, the new rules also present challenges. Higher compliance costs and operational requirements may pressure smaller issuers and could lead to industry consolidation. The shift emphasizes regulatory-driven competition over innovation-driven growth. Furthermore, global regulatory disparities remain, as jurisdictions worldwide have differing definitions and standards for stablecoins, potentially creating friction in international flows. Overall, this U.S. regulatory move signals a structural shift from an enforcement-led approach to a rules-based system for digital assets. It is seen as a maturation of the industry, setting the stage for stablecoins to evolve from crypto trading tools into foundational components of the future digital financial ecosystem, including in cross-border trade, retail payments, and financial market settlements.

Securities or Commodities? A Decade-Long Tug-of-War Ends as the 'Crypto Market Structure Act' Races to the Senate

The "Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act" (CLARITY Act) is advancing to the U.S. Senate for final review after passing the House with strong support. The bill aims to resolve the long-standing regulatory debate over whether cryptocurrencies are classified as securities or commodities. It introduces a clear framework: tokens on decentralized blockchains are defined as "digital commodities" under CFTC oversight, while those meeting the Howey test remain securities regulated by the SEC. Key provisions include a "mature blockchain" exemption for highly decentralized networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum, a 360-day temporary registration pathway for trading platforms, and a fundraising exemption of up to $75 million for certain token offerings with enhanced disclosure. The bill also establishes a joint advisory committee to improve coordination between the CFTC and SEC and explicitly exempts non-custodial DeFi actors from broker-dealer regulations. This legislative effort aligns with the Trump administration's pro-crypto stance, including the appointment of industry-friendly leaders at key agencies like the SEC and CFTC, and recent moves to allow regulated spot crypto trading on CFTC-approved exchanges. If enacted, the law would provide regulatory clarity, encourage institutional adoption, and position the U.S. as a leader in the digital asset space.
