Cybersecurity experts at Bitdefender have reported the discovery of malware disguised as pirated copies of the movie "Odyssey".
This concerns video files for Windows that are hidden under known torrent tags with names such as "the odyssey 2160phd (2026) engsubs eztv.exe", "the odyssey 2026 1080p h264-djt.exe", and "the odyssey 2026 1080p webrip-lama.exe".
After installation, each .exe file launches the Lumma Stealer malware, aimed at infecting the computer. The program searches the infected device for browser passwords, cryptocurrency wallet information, autofill records, and cookie files. Hackers attempt to gain access to the victim's active session to later use the data for re-launch.
Previously, fraudsters have used Lumma in pirated video files of the movie "Mission: Impossible - Consequences". At that time, US authorities and Bitdefender experts stated that the software was developed in Russia and could be purchased for criminal purposes. In May 2025, the US Department of Justice obtained warrants for the seizure of five internet domains used by the program's administrators, and Microsoft filed a lawsuit regarding 2,300 other domains associated with the software. Despite this, the malicious software continues to spread through pirated content and popular applications.
