INCUCAI — the state body of Argentina responsible for coordinating organ, tissue, and cell transplantation — is implementing a digital identity and document authentication system. The system connects INCUCAI with 24 regional organ procurement organizations, as well as hospitals and transplant centers across the country. The $IOTA network has been chosen as the public infrastructure for the project.
The infrastructure was developed by the Latin American company Extrimian, which specializes in decentralized identity. The solution is based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) technology, which allows users to independently control their digital data and credentials.
Authorized personnel can sign documents electronically and record proof of their authenticity on the $IOTA network. The documents themselves and patients' personal data are not recorded on the blockchain — only cryptographic proofs are stored on the network.
The system was launched on the $IOTA mainnet on June 10, 2026. In June, INCUCAI also began implementing electronic signatures in processes that go through SINTRA — Argentina's National Transplant Information System. Through the official digital wallet IncucaiID, patients, healthcare workers, and other authorized users can manage their digital identities and sign documents.
