Cryptocurrency companies and firms in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have become the largest corporate sponsors of the 2026 US congressional elections. This was reported by Reuters on August 20.
"At least $294 million of corporate spending on the midterm elections came from cryptocurrency, technology companies and the online betting industry," the material states, citing data from Public Citizen.
In total, US companies spent $517 million on elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate over the 15 months up to the end of the first quarter. This exceeds the record of $461 million in corporate spending over two years for the 2024 elections.
At the same time, the main expenditures are expected before the November 3rd vote. The largest companies and their executives are also directing funds through political committees. Meta (whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) donated $65 million, and Andreessen Horowitz — more than $81 million primarily to committees associated with cryptocurrencies and AI.
According to analysts from AdImpact, total spending on political advertising during the elections could reach $11.6 billion, compared to $11.2 billion in the 2023-2024 cycle.
On August 17, Kirill Komalenkov, Director of Strategic Communications at Bitbanker, told Izvestia that bitcoin continues to trade sideways amid decreasing volatility in the cryptocurrency market. In the near future, the digital asset may maintain movement in the $61-68k corridor, but a deeper correction is possible if the situation worsens.
