Samsung Becomes South Korea's Most Indebted Corporate Group

On May 26, South Korea's financial regulatory agency stated in a declaration that Samsung has become the most indebted corporate group in South Korea, surpassing SK Group with total liabilities expected to exceed that of SK Group by the end of 2025. SK Group, the parent company of chipmaker SK Hynix, has fallen to third place, while Hyundai Motor ranks second; followed by Lotte in fourth and LG in fifth. In total, 42 corporate groups have been identified as high-debt enterprises, up from 41 the previous year. By the end of last year, the outstanding bank credit balance for these groups was 386.9 trillion won (approximately $255 billion), an increase of 4.1% from the previous year.
