After U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariff move, the lights just turned off. Bitcoin [BTC] tried to stay calm but couldn’t.

What happened?

President Trump announced on the 21st of February that global tariffs would rise to 15% with immediate effect.

Bitcoin briefly pushed higher toward the $68K mark in the hours around the announcement, but the move didn’t last.

Ethereum [ETH] also turned lower, while TOTAL3 (which tracks the total crypto market cap excluding BTC and ETH) dipped about 0.29%. There’s weakness across the altcoin board.

About the same, Wenny Cai, COO at SynFutures, told AMBCrypto,

“Crypto is reacting like a high-beta liquidity proxy. Bitcoin slipping into the mid-$60Ks isn’t just low sentiment. It’s what happens when positioning meets a stronger dollar and less forgiving rates expectations.”

The tariff hike followed a court decision limiting Trump’s use of emergency powers, though he cited other trade laws to justify the increase.

Critics, including attorney Adam Cochran, argued those laws restricted how long and how widely such tariffs can be applied.

It’s not as bad as it looks

Sentiment has dropped, with the Fear and Greed Index falling to levels of “extreme fear” at press time. Investors are pulling back, expecting more downside.

Cai added,

“Markets are digesting a more hawkish read-through from the latest Federal Reserve minutes... Equities have softened and the bid has moved back toward cash-like instruments and short-duration treasuries.”

But one look at the numbers will tell you that these moments haven’t always lasted.

In response to Pippen’s comparison of the market structure in 2020 and 2026, Brandt projected a $BTC price of $250,000 by 2029 and told the basketball legend to "buy the banana" of Bitcoin.

For the confused, the "banana" is Brandt's shorthand for Bitcoin's curved, multi-year growth channel. Since 2012, the price has oscillated between a lower green boundary, which has marked deep cyclical retracements, and an upper red band, which has coincided with speculative excess.

Currently, with the price of Bitcoin trading in the high-$60,000 range after peaking near $92,000 in January 2026, the asset sits in the middle of this range far from historic extremes.

Brandt's projection assumes the continuation of a pattern that investors have already witnessed three times: in 2013, 2017 and 2021. Since the timeline stretches across the next halving cycle and into 2029, the "$250,000 $BTC" figure is not a prediction for the next quarter, and the trader's credibility matters here with more than 50 years of experience in the futures market.

The logic behind $250,000 is as mechanical as pure math: if $BTC remains within its logarithmic growth corridor and repeats prior cycle behavior, the upper boundary will migrate back to the mid-six-figure range before the end of the decade.

Peter Brandt does not deny Pippen's optimism for Bitcoin but insists that long-term geometry still governs the price of it.

Даже в бычьей ситуации краткосрочный откат не будет чем-то необычным.

Типичный паттерн предполагает небольшую коррекцию перед продолжением роста. Если биткоин откатится, ключевая зона поддержки, за которой следует следить, находится между $66 194 и $66 956. Пока цена остается выше этого диапазона, бычья структура остается неизменной.

Если эта поддержка удержится, покупатели могут снова войти и подтолкнуть биткоин к новым локальным максимумам.

Что если поддержка будет пробита?

Если биткоин упадет ниже этой зоны поддержки, прогноз станет более осторожным.

В этом случае следующая важная зона поддержки будет находиться между $64 535 и $62 592. Падение в эту область будет указывать на более глубокую коррекцию перед возобновлением сильного ралли.
