Meta's WhatsApp fined €5.5 million by Irish regulator

Meta Platforms' (META.O) WhatsApp was fined €5.5 million on Thursday by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), the EU's main privacy regulator, for further breaches of EU privacy laws. the DPC also asked WhatsApp to re-evaluate how it uses personal data to improve its services. Earlier this month, the DPC fined Meta €390 million for a similar breach, saying that the services offered by Meta's Facebook and Instagram were in breach and requiring both platforms to re-evaluate the legal basis for advertising based on personal data within the EU.
