According to Reuters, a Meta Platforms Inc spokesperson said on Friday that the company is exploring a separate decentralized social network for sharing text updates, which could be a direct competitor to Musk's Twitter. a Meta spokesperson said, "We are exploring a separate decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there is an opportunity to create an independent space where creators and public figures can share their interests in a timely manner." The news was first reported earlier in the day by Indian business news site Moneycontrol.com, citing sources. The report said Meta's new content app will support ActivityPub, a decentralised social networking protocol for Twitter rival Mastodon and other syndication apps. meta's new app will be Instagram-branded and will allow users to sign up via their Instagram account or login.
