January CPI inflation rate slows to 6.4% but monthly inflation rose by 0.5%

Inflation rose last month by 0.5% from 0.1% in December. Prices continued to decline on a yearly basis for the seventh straight month to 6.4% from 6.5%, the smallest increase since October 2021. Core CPI, a measure of inflation that strips away volatile food and energy prices, rose last month by 0.4% from December’s 0.3% increase. That put the annual core CPI inflation rate at 5.6%.
