From Garage-Built Robot Dogs to Billion-Dollar Valuation: YuTree's Wang Xingxing at the Forefront of Robotics

08/19 10:05

On August 19, YuTree Technology officially debuted on the STAR Market, with its stock price soaring on the first day. The company issued shares at 150.80 yuan each, closing at 845 yuan per share, resulting in a total market capitalization exceeding 340 billion yuan. Based on his shareholding ratio, founder Wang Xingxing, born in 1990, holds shares worth over 100 billion yuan. Wang's rise does not follow the traditional entrepreneurial path familiar in capital markets. Lacking a prestigious academic background and initial attention in the robotics industry, he resembles an engineer deeply immersed in technology research and development. From his student days, Wang developed a strong interest in robotics. During college, he developed bipedal and quadrupedal robots at a low cost, and during his master's program, he launched the all-electric quadrupedal robot XDog, reducing R&D costs through electric drive solutions. In 2016, a test video of XDog went viral overseas, leading to his first investment of 2 million yuan at the age of 26, after which he left DJI to establish YuTree Technology. In the early days of entrepreneurship, the robotics sector had not yet become a hot topic, and YuTree faced financial pressures. In 2017, the company released its first quadrupedal robot, Laikago, but the path to commercialization was challenging. Investors expressed concerns about Wang's 'grassroots background,' yet his focus on technology, product quality, and cost control gradually gained market recognition. With advancements in artificial intelligence and the rise of humanoid robots, YuTree experienced rapid growth. The humanoid robot dance performance at the 2025 Spring Festival Gala brought YuTree into the public eye, leading to heightened interest from industrial capital and the market. Despite the external acclaim, Wang maintains an engineer's demeanor. He has stated that technological breakthroughs in robotics require time and that excessive hype can pressure the industry. He prioritizes product development and commercialization over capital and brand exposure. Currently, YuTree has established a product system for quadrupedal and humanoid robots, launching products like the humanoid robot G1. With the company's listing, Wang now faces new challenges: transitioning from a technical expert to a corporate manager and maintaining a competitive edge in an increasingly crowded robotics industry. From initially manufacturing robots at low costs to now steering a company with a market value of over 100 billion yuan, Wang Xingxing is undergoing a transformation from a tech entrepreneur to a business leader.
