Israeli Prime Minister's Office Denies Plans to Assassinate Iranian Negotiator

On July 3, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement denying reports from U.S. media about Israel planning to assassinate senior Iranian negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani, labeling the claims as 'fake news' and 'complete fabrication.' According to a report by The New York Times on July 2, U.S. officials had indirectly warned Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf earlier this year that Israel might attempt to assassinate them. The U.S. was concerned that such actions by Israel could undermine subsequent ceasefire negotiations and spark a new round of conflict, prompting them to ask other regional countries to convey this warning to Iran. The report also mentioned that following a sudden attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran on February 28, Bagheri Kani and Ghalibaf were identified as targets by Israel, and two other senior Iranian officials involved in the negotiations had already been killed by Israeli airstrikes.
