Paradigm Introduces Timestamp Escape Mechanism to Protect Bitcoin from Quantum Attacks

05/01 21:15

On May 2, Paradigm researcher Dan Robinson proposed a new solution called PACT (Verifiable Address Controlled Timestamp), aimed at protecting long-dormant bitcoins, including those from the Satoshi Nakamoto era, from future quantum computing attacks. This mechanism allows users to prove their control over an address through a timestamp without needing to transfer assets or expose on-chain behavior. Once a future quantum attack occurs, assets can be recovered on a quantum-resistant version of the Bitcoin network based on this proof. Compared to mandatory migration solutions (such as BIP-361), PACT avoids privacy exposure issues associated with actively transferring assets, providing long-term holders with a more flexible preemptive protection path.
