Iran Expected to Submit Revised Peace Proposal Soon

04/28 15:55

On April 28, sources told CNN that following U.S. President Trump's rejection of an earlier version of the proposal, the Pakistani mediators in the process expect to receive a revised proposal from Iran aimed at ending the war in the coming days. The sources indicated that Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif is expected to return to Tehran after a visit to Russia, where he will consult with the country's leadership. The process has been slow due to difficulties in communication with Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei, whose whereabouts are kept confidential. Trump had previously stated that he would not accept the version submitted by Iran last weekend, which proposed to end the war first while leaving the thorny issues related to Iran's nuclear program to be resolved at a later stage. The sources noted that the process is still ongoing and remains uncertain, largely depending on whether Iran will present a revised proposal that is more acceptable to the U.S.
