EU plans new trade deal with US: sources

10/10 16:30

according to informed sources, the European Union will cooperate with the United States to develop a new plan to implement the next stage of the trade agreement between the two sides. The goal is to set aside Washington's proposal - which requires the EU to repeal some regulatory measures that have long been criticized by Trump. Informed sources said the current idea is to create a "checklist" to ensure the agreement stays on track and moves forward within the parameters set by both sides earlier this summer. Earlier reports stated that earlier this month, Washington requested Brussels to amend several laws on technology, digital, and business environment, which EU officials considered too strict and difficult to use as a starting point for negotiations. The EU is prepared to discuss these issues and address concerns, but will not give up its regulatory autonomy. Informed sources said that after talks between EU Trade Commissioner Dombrovskis and U.S. Trade Representative Tai over the weekend, Brussels decided to set aside these requests and instead develop a new list.
