These price moves were a result of President Donald Trump’s address to the nation. The S&P 500 erased $550 billion from its market cap in under half an hour, reported the Kobeissi Letter.

President Trump’s threats to strike Iran’s power plants and the expectations of “two to three weeks” of further conflict sent oil prices soaring to $107.65 per barrel. Experts have warned that the initial price shock from rising oil rates was just the beginning.

The brunt of this development’s impact will take weeks and months to be felt. This conflict and its aftermath could be what is needed to push Bitcoin toward its final cyclical capitulation.

Crypto market faces increased liquidations

CoinGlass data showed $349.84 million in liquidations across the market in the past 24 hours. Ethereum had the biggest share of liquidations at $90.83 million, with Bitcoin second at $80.89 million in total liquidations.

It was mostly the long-positioned traders who suffered from the president’s address and market-wide fear.

The drop aligns with a pattern forming across on-chain data, chart structure, and derivatives positioning. One cohort of buyers has been steadily exiting since January, and the technical picture now threatens a 14% correction if a key level fails.

The Buyers Who Bought the Dip Are Walking Away
$BTC HODL waves, an on-chain metric that tracks the percentage of supply held by different age groups, show a dramatic exit from the 1-month to 3-month cohort. On January 14, this group controlled 14.67% of the total Bitcoin supply. By April 1, that figure had fallen to 8.19%, its lowest reading of the year.

The decline accelerated in two distinct waves. The first came post mid-February, when the cohort’s share dropped from 12.72% on February 15 to single digits by February 22. A second aggressive leg down arrived around March 22, when the reading slipped from 9.44% and continued falling without recovery.

That distinction matters. While BTC funds snapped their negative streak, Ethereum ETFs closed March with $46 million in outflows, extending their own losing run to five straight months. The prior four months had been brutal. Outflows totaled approximately $6.3 billion between November 2025 and February 2026, $3.5 billion in November alone following Bitcoin's crash from its $126,000 all-time high on October 10.

CoinShares CEO Jean‐Marie Mognetti pushed back against reading too much into the market’s initial reaction. Speaking to Barron’s, he said the company’s US listing was driven by readiness rather than market convenience.

“We are not listing because the market is easy. We are listing because the business is ready, and that’s much more important,” Mognetti said, stressing the company’s long‐term strategy over short‐term share price movements.
