The Engendro Velho farm, located in Paraná, Brazil, received a loan of nearly $20K using a herd of 10 cows as collateral, using decentralized technology to digitize the information of each cow.

The farmer received the Financial Rural Product Note (CPR-F) valued at nearly $100K from BMP, a direct credit society, and the deliverables (each cow) were assigned to Target FIDC, a fintech company that registered the transaction using each animal’s data.

While this kind of transaction is not new, the tokenization and monitoring of the cows enables farmers to get a better deal, as creditors can examine the status of the herd at any time, lowering the risks associated with such a loan.

Humberto Brenner, a director at Target FIDC, stressed that this element can lead to a cow reaching up to 2.5 times the price it would have in similar non-monitored agreements.

Crypto is the canary in the coal mine for the quantum computing threat, experts sayAs estimates for “Q-Day” move closer, experts warn that crypto’s slow governance, not its cryptography, may be the biggest obstacle to defending against quantum attacks.Quantum computing is a risk factor for every encrypted system on the planet, including major banks. But crypto, due to the way it works, may be the technology that gets tested first.

"Cryptocurrencies are the canary in the coal mine," Eddy Zervigon, CEO of Quantum Xchange, said in an interview with CoinDesk. Zervigon's firm builds infrastructure to shield networks, including financial ones, from quantum-enabled attacks, and he's blunt about where the first casualty is likely to show up.

"That's the first place of attack because of the decentralized nature," Zervigon said. "Once you see it happening there, then you know that someone somewhere has a cryptographically relevant quantum computer."

Crypto traders are getting access to China’s AI stock rush through a route Beijing did not build for them. Instead of buying mainland shares, offshore investors are using perpetual futures tied to Chinese chip companies.

The contracts let users to wager on share values without actually holding the shares, and they are traded continuously on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Due to this arrangement, a distinct market for names has been established that is difficult for foreign capital to access through regular exchanges.

The biggest target is CXMT, a Chinese memory-chip maker due to start trading in Shanghai on Monday. TradeXYZ and Gate.com have listed perpetual contracts linked to the company before its public debut.

CoinGlass recorded about $19 million in CXMT perp volume over 24 hours. The chipmaker wants to collect nearly $10 billion, which would make the deal mainland China’s largest IPO since 2010.

Crypto platforms give offshore traders a way around China’s stock access rules
Beijing maintains a controlled framework to prevent foreign investment in Shanghai and Shenzhen stocks. Typically, foreign investors participate through the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor framework or Hong Kong’s Stock Connect program.

There are restrictions to both methods. While limits limit the amount of money that can go through the authorized routes, Stock Connect only covers a limited number of businesses.

CXMT will enter Shanghai’s STAR Market, which has strict entry requirements for locals. Retail traders are required to maintain a minimum of 500,000 yuan, or around $74,000, in qualifying assets.

Additionally, a two-year trading history is necessary. This prevents many mainland purchasers from taking the company’s pricing into consideration.

Ten dairy cows in Paraná, Brazil, carried encrypted identities that Cowmed collars had built from each animal's health, behavior, and location data into B3 this week.

Those identities turned the cows into collateral for nearly $20,000 in credit, and the record behind them aims to shrink the haircut lenders apply and stop lenders from pledging the same animal twice.

Brazil's pilot proves the mechanics work at a small scale, and the bigger opportunity sits in countries where farmers own valuable livestock and cannot borrow against it because they lack the land titles banks require.

The global gap between what small businesses need to borrow and what they can access runs to $5.7 trillion, climbing to $8 trillion once informal enterprises count too. Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounts for roughly $331 billion of that gap, and the African Development Bank puts credit access among African smallholder farmers at just 6%.

Livestock represents wealth these farmers already own, so the test becomes whether digital identity, collateral registries, insurance and lender claims can connect well enough to turn that wealth into a loan a bank will make.

Where the infrastructure already exists

Ethiopia holds Africa's largest livestock population, and its central bank already runs an electronic registry that names cattle, camels, sheep, goats and poultry as eligible collateral.

The contracts have now cleared on two consecutive Fridays, and Bitcoin is sitting roughly where it started. What did happen on Friday is easy to see in the trading data. CryptoQuant's exchange-wide figures track which side of the market is crossing the spread to get filled, a decent proxy for who's in a hurry.
