$Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Praises Crypto Clarity Act as "Extraordinarily Bipartisan

Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer, Faryar Shirzad, struck an optimistic tone regarding the long-awaited Clarity Act on Monday, claiming there was bipartisan support for the bill in its current form.

Speaking to Fox Business Monday, Shirzad said it was time for Democrats and Republicans to unite on the Clarity Act - and added that a vote could come as soon as next week.

"This bill is an extraordinarily bipartisan piece of work," he said. "It's ready for final action. We're very excited it's going to get done.

Lawmakers have been mulling over the Clarity Act since last year, which would set in stone crypto regulation.

A new draft started circulating last week which bans officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto - something opposition lawmakers previously had issue with.

But some Democrats are still unhappy with the bill in its current form. A group of Democrats last week said in a statement that the bill in its current form falls short.

The bill has been in a deadlock this year, partially because banking chiefs raised concerns over stablecoin yield and ethics concerns.

Banking lobbyists have said that if crypto exchanges pay attractive yields to customers, banks could lose their deposit base.

MSTR: Schiff Predicts Strategy's Bitcoin Yield Will Turn Negative

Peter Schiff believes Strategy's Bitcoin yield model is losing its edge and warns that its yield could turn negative this year.

In a recent social media post, Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff predicted that Strategy's Bitcoin yield will ultimately be negative this year.

This comes after the company's stock price surged as much as 7% earlier today due to increased dollar reserves.

Strategy previously claimed it could raise funds to buy more Bitcoin and increase the amount of Bitcoin backed per share (i.e., the Bitcoin yield). Shareholders were promised that they wouldn't actually need to buy more of this flagship cryptocurrency to increase their Bitcoin exposure.

However, as Schiff points out, the very mechanisms that initially made Strategy attractive are now showing signs of weakness.

Strategy's Bitcoin yield has plummeted from 13.3% to 4.5% in just two months.

"If MSTR's advantage relative to Bitcoin disappears, why take on additional corporate risk? Why not just buy Bitcoin directly?" Schiff said.

Metaplanet's Siiibo Deal Lays Groundwork for Bitcoin Bond Market, Says Benchmark

Benchmark says Metaplanet's ¥2.1B ($13M) acquisition of Siiibo Securities is the foundation for a Bitcoin-backed "Bitbonds" market in Japan, not just a minor brokerage purchase.
Investment firm Benchmark says the market has underestimated what Metaplanet's acquisition of Japanese brokerage Siiibo Securities actually means for the company. Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer made that argument after meeting with Dylan LeClair, Metaplanet's Director of Bitcoin Strategy. Palmer wrote that most observers read the 2.1 billion yen (roughly $13 million) deal as a routine, small-scale addition to the business. He said that reading misses the company's broader goal.

The acquisition gave Metaplanet a Type-1 Financial Instrument Business Operator license. That license allows the holder to structure and distribute securities in Japan. LeClair told Benchmark that obtaining the same license through a standard application typically takes several months or more. Buying Siiibo gave Metaplanet that regulatory standing without the wait.
Metaplanet's plan for the brokerage has nothing to do with raising money for its own Bitcoin (BTC) purchases. LeClair said the goal is to turn Metaplanet Securities into an open platform, which other companies pursuing a Bitcoin treasury strategy would use to issue debt and fund their own BTC holdings. Metaplanet is calling these instruments "Bitbonds." The bonds are designed to carry yields of roughly 4% to 6%. The company plans to eventually settle them on-chain using stablecoins. A secondary market for the bonds would follow over the coming years.

Palmer connected this plan to Metaplanet's "Project Nova" roadmap. That roadmap lays out a strategy to grow the company beyond simply holding BTC on its balance sheet.
