Crypto exchange BitMart to wind down trading platform by January 2027


BitMart will shut down its crypto trading platform through an orderly wind-down process after determining that current operating conditions, market circumstances and its long-term strategy no longer support continuing operations, the company said this week.

In a statement, the exchange said it will gradually stop accepting new users, suspend fiat and crypto deposits, prevent new futures positions and spot orders, and phase out copy trading, grid trading, API trading and other automated services beginning July 26, 2026.

Trading across spot and futures markets will cease on Aug. 26, while investment products including Earn, staking, lending and Launchpad will be retired separately. The exchange expects to officially cease platform operations on Jan. 31, 2027, although users will temporarily retain access to their accounts for withdrawals and historical records afterward.

Users are advised to withdraw assets as early as possible by completing KYC verification, closing open positions and submitting withdrawal requests before the Aug. 26 deadline.

The firm said withdrawals will remain available but may be subject to identity verification, blockchain risk analysis, Travel Rule compliance, sanctions screening and source-of-funds checks, with processing times potentially extended during periods of heavy demand.

Between the crypto wallet on your phone and a real share of Nvidia sits a California brokerage holding $1.5 billion in stock that almost no buyer of tokenized equities could name.

Alpaca says it custodies more than $1.5 billion in shares backing tokenized equities and clears roughly 94% of the market.

Alpaca says it custodies more than $1.5 billion of shares backing tokenized equities, which, by public tracker measurements, would represent most of the market.

With DTCC preparing to launch its own tokenization service in October and the SEC warning that third-party stock tokens can expose investors to additional ownership and intermediary risks, the numbers reveal a concentrated brokerage layer beneath a market promoted as decentralized.

Tokenization is the practice of representing a real-world asset as a digital token on a blockchain, so that owning the token stands in for owning, or at least tracking, the thing itself. Applied to equities, it means a version of Apple or Nvidia stock that exists in a crypto wallet, trades on crypto exchanges around the clock, and moves between buyers in minutes without touching a traditional brokerage account.

A buyer from basically anywhere in the world can hold exposure to US companies through the same app they use for Bitcoin, at any hour, in fractional amounts, and the market has grown into hundreds of tokenized assets spread across Solana, Ethereum, and several other chains, issued by competing platforms and sold through exchanges ......
