BlackRock, VanEck, Virtus InfraCap pour $756M into STRC - Details

Institutional investors are increasingly viewing Strategy's STRC preferred stock as a mainstream income product rather than a specialized cryptocurrency-linked investment.

With a combined investment of $756 million, STRC has amassed the largest holding among the three main U.S. preferred stock exchange-traded funds (ETFs): BlackRock's PFF, Virtus InfraCap's PFFA, and VanEck's PFXF.

Why is this a bullish sign?

This is noteworthy because these ETFs are frequently looking for steady income.

Hence, by allocating a significant amount of their portfolios to STRC, ETF managers have now exposed millions of investors to Strategy's credit products.

This shows that, despite Strategy's close ties to Bitcoin [BTC], the market is beginning to regard it as a reliable issuer of fixed-income securities.

Concerns and crictism remains

Small farmers, construction firms, and independent retailers carry enormous climate-driven financial risk but have almost no practical way to hedge it. The weather derivatives market-designed for precisely that-sits firmly in the hands of large energy companies, insurers, and agricultural conglomerates. A CoinDesk op-ed now argues that tokenization could be the mechanism that finally pushes these instruments beyond institutional walls and onto Main Street balance sheets.

A market built for the few

Conventional weather derivatives-

temperature-based contracts, rainfall swaps, hurricane bonds-require capital, prime brokerage relationships, and legal infrastructure that shut out smaller players. A mid-sized farm facing a drought can't easily buy a tailored seasonal payout. The paper-based and over-the-counter nature of these contracts adds cost and complexity. In practice, most of the economy absorbs weather shocks directly.

Tokenization changes the math. By representing weather-linked cash flows as smart contracts on public blockchains, a farmer in Brazil or a roofing contractor in Florida could, in theory, purchase a parametric hedge without going through a bank. Oracles feed verified weather data on-chain, automation handles settlement, and fractional ownership lets users buy only the protection they need. The core logic isn't new to DeFi, but the real-world impact would be.

Chainlink drew more than $7 billion of token value onto its cross-chain infrastructure in the second quarter as institutional adoption accelerated, according to its second-quarter review.

The migration came as crypto projects replaced older bridging systems and traditional-finance firms moved deeper into tokenized markets, expanding Chainlink’s role across both sides of the digital-asset economy.

Chainlink said its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) handled $4.9 billion in quarterly volume, up 353% from a year earlier, while the network’s total value secured reached $110 billion.

The growth is also sharpening a longstanding question for investors: whether wider use of Chainlink’s infrastructure can translate into stronger economic demand for LINK, the network’s native token.
