XRP News Today: JPMorgan, Mastercard and Ondo Complete a Historic First

Four of the biggest names in global finance just completed a transaction that the industry has been working toward for years. Ondo, Kinexys by JPMorgan, Mastercard, and Ripple successfully executed a pilot transaction connecting the XRP Ledger directly with interbank settlement rails.

The result was the first time tokenized US Treasuries settled across borders and between banks in near real time, outside traditional banking windows.

How It Worked

The transaction moved through three distinct steps. Ondo processed a redemption of OUSG, its tokenized US Treasury product, on the XRP Ledger. Mastercard’s Multi-Token Network then routed the settlement instructions to Kinexys, JPMorgan’s blockchain-based payment platform. JPMorgan then delivered US dollars directly to Ripple’s Singapore bank account.

Start to finish, a tokenized asset moved from a public blockchain through global banking infrastructure and landed as real money in a real bank account, in real time.

Why It’s Important

Cross-border settlements today are slow, expensive, and bound by banking hours and time zones. This pilot demonstrated that those constraints are not inevitable. A public blockchain and traditional banking infrastructure can work together in a single integrated flow without one replacing the other.

Tokenized assets have long been described as the future of finance. This transaction suggested that future is closer than most expected. For the first time, a tokenized fund did not just exist on a blockchain. It settled across borders, across institutions, and across time zones as part of a live transaction.

The broader implication is significant. Global financial markets currently close. The infrastructure tested in this pilot is designed to make sure they never have to.

Beyond humans: Lily Liu says Solana is building the payment rails for the 'AI machine economy'
Solana Foundation president Lily Liu said growing adoption of stablecoins by major corporations is validating blockchain’s evolution into global financial infrastructure, while also laying the groundwork for AI-driven “machine economies.
Speaking at Consensus Miami 2026 on Tuesday, Liu pointed to recent announcements involving Meta and Western Union integrating stablecoin payments on Solana as evidence that large enterprises increasingly view blockchain rails as practical infrastructure rather than speculative technology.
“It’s not new,” Liu said, referencing Visa’s decision in 2023 to build stablecoin settlement capabilities on Solana following what she described as an “extensive objective review” of blockchain networks.
“Fast and cheap is a no-brainer for payments,” she said, adding that enterprises also need deep liquidity, developers and a broad ecosystem of applications surrounding those payment rails.

Liu described Western Union’s move onto blockchain infrastructure as a particularly meaningful milestone for the crypto industry. “When I first came into this industry in 2014, Western Union was always the white whale crypto,” she said.

Exploring the intersection of crypto and artificial intelligence, Liu argued that blockchain-based payments are uniquely suited for “agentic commerce,” where AI agents transact autonomously with other machines and services.

Traditional internet payment systems remain heavily dependent on credit cards, which make micropayments economically impractical because of interchange fees, Liu said. Blockchain rails, by contrast, enable sub-dollar transactions and real-time payment streaming.

Robinhood VP of Crypto Institutions Nicola White said the dynamic with banks has shifted materially. “We’re not having conversations anymore about what blockchain is,” she said.

“Now it’s about, how do we help them build?” Ondo President Ian De Bode pointed to partnerships with Broadridge and the DTCC to tokenise securities and enable blockchain-based shareholder voting as evidence that institutional pipelines have moved from planning to production.

White also flagged risks around retail product velocity. She noted that 50% of Robinhood’s new Q1 platform users were first-time investors, and warned that 100x perpetual leverage products carry risks “that maybe people don’t understand.”

Panelists said adoption will split into two tracks: regulated US finance and an offshore permissionless crypto market running in parallel. As crypto.news tracked, Robinhood has been expanding institutional and retail crypto infrastructure since its Bitstamp acquisition, with crypto notional volumes reaching $25 billion in February 2026, up 74% year-on-year.
