Bitcoin price outlook as Bernstein signals potential bottom for crypto stocks this quarter

Bitcoin price has fallen over 30% from its yearly high, largely impacted by geopolitical and economic concerns that deteriorated investor appetite for risk assets.

After rallying nearly 12% to a yearly high of $97,538 on Jan. 15, the bellwether crypto has fallen by nearly 31% to $67,525 at the time of writing. This came amid several geopolitical and macroeconomic concerns that have largely risen due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff drama that has extended into the beginning of this year, followed by the start of a war in the Middle East against Iran that has led to repercussions in energy and financial markets across the globe.

The hawkish stance the Federal Reserve has maintained as a result has also not helped the situation.

According to analysts at Bernstein, the resulting volatility has left stocks tied to crypto markets, including exchanges, brokerages, and tokenization platforms such as Coinbase, Robinhood, and Figure, down nearly 60% from their recent highs. This represents a big discount considering that these businesses have continued to expand their operations despite the turbulence.

In their Monday note to clients, they predicted that the current market weakness will extend until the release of first-quarter earnings reports, at which point a market bottom could potentially form. Such a prediction suggests that Bitcoin could likely continue to see more downside at least until April ends.

The European Central Bank has started accepting tokenized securities issued on distributed ledger technology as eligible collateral for Eurosystem credit operations, in what many in European markets see as a watershed moment for on‑chain finance. The change, effective March 30, 2026, follows months of preparation under the ECB’s digital finance and wholesale DLT experimentation agenda, and gives banks a way to post properly structured tokenized assets against central bank liquidity. The decision has quickly become the most discussed topic on Crypto X, in part because one of the early platforms in focus, Axiology, is built using open‑source $XRP Ledger code.

The nuance that is driving arguments is simple but politically charged. In documentation and technical clarifications around its collateral framework, the ECB has stressed that using $XRP Ledger–based infrastructure “does not imply the use of the public $XRP token” and that all eligible collateral must meet existing eligibility and risk‑control criteria regardless of the technology used. That has not stopped $XRP‑aligned accounts from trying to spin the development as proof that “$XRP is now ECB collateral,” while critics point out that the central bank is explicitly separating the underlying open‑source code base from the freely traded $XRP asset tracked on the $XRP price page.

Breaking Bitcoin's blockchain with quantum computers may not be as difficult as once thought, and Bitcoin’s Taproot technology, which enables more efficient, private transactions, may be partly to blame, Google's Quantum AI team said Monday in a blog post and newly published whitepaper.

The team said the computing power required to break Bitcoin’s security may be far lower than previously assumed, raising fresh questions about how soon quantum threats could become a reality.

In a new whitepaper, researchers found that cracking the cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum could require fewer than 500,000 physical quantum bits, or qubits, well below the “millions” often cited in recent years.

Google has previously pointed to 2029 as a potential milestone for useful quantum systems, saying migration needs to come before that, making the paper’s finding that attacks may require less computing power more significant.

Quantum computers use qubits instead of traditional bits and can solve certain problems much faster than today’s machines. One of those problems is breaking the type of encryption that protects crypto wallets.

Google said it designed two potential attack methods, each requiring roughly 1,200 to 1,450 high-quality qubits. That is a fraction of earlier estimates and suggests the gap between current technology and a viable attack may be smaller than investors think.

The research also outlines how such an attack could work in practice.

Rather than targeting old wallets, a quantum attacker could go after transactions in real time. When someone sends bitcoin, a piece of data called a public key is briefly revealed. A fast enough quantum computer could use that information to calculate the private key and redirect the funds.
