$XRP ($XRP) is trading at $1.3157 on April 3, 2026, down 0.33% on the day and compressing near the apex of a descending wedge pattern that has formed across both the daily and 4H timeframes since February. The Supertrend indicator on the daily chart sits at $1.4894, in red above price, confirming the prevailing bearish regime. Yet the formation itself is a structure that technical analysts typically associate with bullish reversal potential when it emerges at the end of a prolonged downtrend, provided the lower trendline holds.

On the daily chart, two converging trendlines are clearly visible: a descending upper resistance line and a slightly rising lower support line. The move signals a shift toward federal oversight of crypto infrastructure while preserving a non-bank model focused on custody and institutional services.

Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, shared on social media platform X that the approval does not signal a transition into banking activities. He said:

“Coinbase has received conditional OCC charter approval. We’re not becoming a bank, it’s a trust company. We’re bringing the infrastructure of crypto under federal regulatory oversight.”

Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad shared on X: “The OCC’s conditional approval of Coinbase’s national trust charter is a landmark moment. Enormous thanks to [Comptroller of the Currency] Jonathan Gould and his team for their diligent review of our application and the fair application of the law.”

Coinbase Institutional Co-CEO Greg Tusar expanded on the development in a company blog published April 2, outlining the intended use of the trust charter. Yet, the higher timeframe price action was at an interesting place where a price bounce could not be ruled out completely.

Explaining Bitcoin’s trend expectation

The swing moves on the 3-day timeframe were captured in white. The latest bounce amid the downtrend came in February and was incomplete. There’s a reason why it is considered incomplete.

In October 2025, when the swing structure was bullish, Bitcoin made a double top at $124.4k. This inability to continue the uptrend was an early warning sign of weakness from the bulls.

Subsequently, the swing structure shifted bearishly after the $107.2k low was breached in early November.

Consider the price action since February. The $60k swing low resulted in a bounce that has not climbed above the 50% retracement level.

Many analysts consider the area above the 50% retracement as “premium,” and a move into this area is more likely to result in the next bearish swing move.

The threshold was at $78.9k, and the latest bounce only reached $76k. After this bounce, Bitcoin has not yet climbed below the $60k swing low.
