XRP Price Prediction 2026 Amid Panic Selling And Major Losses

The numbers that have come out lately tell a story that’s hard to ignore. Data from Glassnode shows that XRP’s Spent Output Profit Ratio, or SOPR for short, has fallen pretty dramatically—it dropped from 1.16 back in July 2025 all the way down to 0.96 at the time of writing. What this means is that holders are realizing major losses, and it’s not just a few people here and there. The blockchain analytics firm highlighted what they called “triggered panic selling” as investors offload XRP in response to broader market pressures that have built up over recent months.

Right now, the token trades around the $1.41 to $1.43 range, which represents a massive drop from its cycle high of $3.66. When you’re looking at whether XRP is a lost cause or not at the time of writing, traders can’t ignore these kinds of price movements, and they’ve weighed heavily on investor sentiment right now.

David Schwartz, who serves as Ripple’s CTO Emeritus, recently addressed all the speculation that’s going around about XRP reaching extreme price targets. His comments were measured, and also pretty revealing about how he thinks about these things:

“I don’t feel comfortable saying something like that. While I don’t think it’s likely, I didn’t think it was likely that XRP would ever hit $0.25. I started selling XRP at $0.10 because it seemed insane. I remember when bitcoin hitting $100 seemed like an impossible dream.”

In the meantime, profitability is stagnant, and operators are unplugging their machines en masse.

The great unplug

The Bitcoin difficulty chart paints a stark picture of the exodus. Difficulty hit an all-time high of nearly 155 T in early November 2025. Since that peak, the metric has stepped down consistently, crashing to its current level of 141.67 T as of late January 2026.

Mining difficulty determines how hard it should be to find a block. When more miners join, it gets harder. When they leave, it gets easier. The stepped decline in the chart confirms that massive amounts of hashrate are being taken offline. Miners are "tapping out" since they are unable to justify the electricity costs of running their fleets.

In late October, miner profitability (hashprice) fell off a cliff. It dropped from ~$49/PH/s to ~$35/PH/s in a matter of days.

Despite the difficulty dropping, which should theoretically make it more profitable for the remaining miners, profitability has barely budged. It remains stuck in the $38–$40 range.

This creates a "profitability trap." The remaining miners are getting a larger slice of the pie, but the value of that pie is likely too low to make a difference.

Everstake, a crypto staking provider, said in a new report that 2025 was a “year of sharp contrasts” for Ethereum, filled with major network upgrades and rising institutional adoption even as the price of ETH remained relatively flat.

In its Ethereum Staking Insights & Protocol Analysis report, Everstake said total value staked reached about 36.08 million ETH, or roughly 29.3% of supply, with net growth of more than 1.8 million ETH. As of Tuesday, Jan. 27, about 36.5 million ETH is staked – roughly 30.26% of supply, according to Coinbase data.

The report also highlighted continued growth in network activity, with Ethereum Layer 1 (L1) transactions rising about 30% over the year to around 1.5-1.6 million per day, while Layer 2 throughput surpassed roughly 300-330 transactions per second (TPS).

The findings underscore that Ethereum has continued to scale and attract larger players despite ETH’s underperformance. Currently, Ethereum’s total value locked (TVL) stands at nearly $72 billion, while Ether is changing hands at $2,930, up 4% on the day, but down 10% over the year.

Everstake said the Layer 1 is increasingly being used as a settlement layer, while most day-to-day activity has shifted to Layer 2.
