Shiba Inu team raises $12 million (17:20)

Nomura-backed Laser Digital Japan has included Shiba Inu among just six digital assets it will support after completing its registration with the country’s Financial Services Agency.

The FSA approved Laser Digital Japan’s registration on Aug 21. The move ends a four-year stretch in which Japanese regulators issued no new crypto exchange licenses.

Clearing Tokyo’s demanding compliance standards is rare, making the approval significant for the local industry.

The Shib Token shared this on X, saying, "SHIB is one of six digital assets supported by Nomura-backed Laser Digital Japan following completion of its regulatory registration. Another step forward for SHIB’s global reach."

A short and exclusive list

Laser Digital Japan will launch with a tightly limited lineup. Alongside Shiba Inu, the platform will handle Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin.

The inclusion of the popular meme token stands out on a list otherwise dominated by long-established large-cap assets.

SHIB’s place on the roster was helped by its earlier addition to the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association’s “Green List.”

Tokens on that list can be offered through a simplified process once an exchange is licensed.

What the approval means

Laser Digital Japan is positioned to serve institutional rather than purely retail clients at the outset. The firm plans to provide wholesale liquidity to existing local platforms before expanding access to corporations and investment funds.

For SHIB, the step moves the token beyond pure retail meme status and into a regulated institutional channel in a major Asian market.

Bitcoin has surged from around $63,000 to near $80,000 in the past week, and the on-chain analytics platform Glassnode points out that this recent rise is not simply due to low liquidity. According to Glassnode, aggressive buying in spot markets, increased trading volumes, strengthening liquidity, and institutional demand indicate that real capital inflows are behind Bitcoin’s surge.

Glassnode’s assessment stated that Bitcoin had strongly broken out of its previous trading range and managed to stay near its peak levels despite brief consolidations. The increase in trading volume and market depth indicated that the rise was supported by a more meaningful capital allocation, rather than a temporary bounce stemming from weak market conditions.

Data from derivative markets also indicates that investors are shifting to a more aggressive risk stance. Glassnode reported that taker flows in perpetual futures have strongly shifted in favor of buyers, and cumulative volume indicators have risen above the upper statistical bands.

However, it was also noted that the amount of open positions in futures contracts expanded to high levels. According to the platform, this indicates a significant increase in speculative participation and leverage use in the market.

A similar strengthening is seen on the institutional investor side. The fact that the trading volumes and weekly net inflows of spot Bitcoin ETFs have significantly exceeded historical thresholds indicates that institutional demand is actively participating in the recent bull run.

On-chain data also supports market movement. Glassnode reported an increase in daily active Bitcoin addresses and a strong rise in asset-adjusted transfer volume. This data indicates an acceleration in user engagement and economic transfer activity on the Bitcoin network.

At the same time, the token supply is moving off exchanges. More than 180,764 $ETH, which is worth about $440 million, has been withdrawn over the past week. Martinez said the trend supports the case for increasing buying pressure.

However, it still faces a major resistance zone between $2,722 and $2,970. URPD data shows that 16.70 million were previously acquired within this range, which makes it a major supply wall. If Ethereum breaks through the zone, the next major MVRV Pricing Band is near $5,363, at the 2.4 level. The analysts also noted that a rejection could first send the altcoin back toward the Realized Price near $2,235 before a potential move toward the 2.4 MVRV band.

Besides, Ethereum has once again reached its 200-week moving average, which happens to be the 11th such instance over the past five years, ‘The Long Investor’ found, who pointed to a repeated pattern in the crypto asset’s price history. Each time it has moved below the 200 WMA, it has later returned to the moving average.
