Bitcoin Extends Its Recovery With a Fresh Local High

After dipping to $65,600 last Monday, BTC regained momentum and steadily climbed toward $70,000 by midweek. The first attempt to break higher stalled following the release of US CPI data, yet the bulls regrouped and drove the asset to a ten‑day peak of $74,000 on Friday. Weekend volatility tied to developments on the US and Israel vs Iran front briefly pushed BTC back toward $70,000, but the new business week opened with renewed strength. In less than a day, BTC rallied to $76,000, marking its highest level since early February before correcting to $73,700.

Altcoins Deliver Stronger Daily Gains

Ethereum and XRP outperformed during the broader market push. ETH climbed above $2,300 after being capped at $2,400 earlier in the day, securing a 2% daily increase. XRP touched $1.60 at its peak and now trades near $1.50 after a similar move, overtaking BNB in market cap. HYPE reclaimed the $40 level with a 3.5% rise, and CC moved above $0.15. The bitcoin $BTC$73,886.45 price has remained relatively unscathed during the two‑week war with Iran. What's more impressive is that its key volatility metrics have also held steady, a sign that crypto traders are less fearful than those in traditional markets such as equities, oil and bonds.

Tensions between Iran, the U.S., and Israel broke into open conflict on Feb. 28, damaging oil infrastructure across the Middle East and disrupting tanker flows. Analysts warned that the turmoil could trigger massive price volatility and fear-driven hedging across asset classes.

So far, they have been partially wrong.

Bitcoin’s 30-day implied volatility index, BVIV, has remained remarkably steady, holding between 55% and 60%, according to TradingView data. Implied volatility reflects the demand for options, so the stability suggests traders have not been aggressively buying put options, which hedge against price declines.

Traders in traditional markets, however, have freaked out and been chasing those options, as evidenced by spikes in their respective volatility indexes.

The equities gauge, the VIX — which measures the expected 30-day volatility of the S&P 500 based on options prices — averaged just above 20% before the conflict. It jumped to over 32% on March 6 and remained elevated near 26% on Monday.

Cboe’s crude oil volatility index, OVX, surged to more than 100% from 64%. MOVE, which tracks volatility in U.S. Treasury notes, rose to 85% from 73%, hitting a high of 95% at one point, reflecting broad-based market uncertainty. The volatility index for gold, traditionally seen as a haven during troubled times, held steady above 30%.

Popular NFT platform OpenSea has postponed the launch date of its native token, ‘SEA’.

Accordingly, OpenSea postponed the launch of the SEA token, citing market conditions.

OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer announced this situation via a post on his X account, stating that the launch of the platform’s native token, SEA, has been postponed.

“The OpenSea Foundation initially planned to launch the token on March 30th, but decided to postpone the schedule.”

Fitzer attributed the delay to challenging conditions in the cryptocurrency market and said that because the token launch was a one-time opportunity, the team chose to focus on fixing the product’s shortcomings rather than sticking to the original timeline.

At this point, Pitzer stated, “Current market conditions are not easy. Since the SEA token will only be launched once, it’s important not to proceed before we are fully prepared. We could have brought the program forward, but ensuring the level of quality the community expects is more important.”

Fitzer noted that fifty percent of the total offering is reserved for the OpenSea community, encompassing both former users and those currently participating in the rewards program, and added that this will be the last wave of rewards.

At this point, along with the postponement, OpenSea is ending its Reward Wave program and will offer users who participated in the third through sixth reward payment periods a platform fee refund option. If the refund option is chosen, the relevant Treasures rewards will be forfeited.

Additionally, the platform will reduce transaction fees to 0% for two months starting March 31st.

A fresh clash between XRP critics and defenders broke out on X after Chainlink Community Liaison Zach Rynes (@ChainLinkGod) argued that the XRP investment thesis has failed to keep pace with how crypto markets and financial infrastructure have evolved. His central claim was blunt: the XRP Ledger is now a “ghost chain,” while the use case once pitched for XRP as a bridge asset has largely been overtaken by stablecoins and broader interoperability infrastructure.

Rynes framed the dispute around what he called the long-running retail thesis behind XRP. “The bizarre retail thesis of XRP is that it will become the global reserve currency that everything trades against, the so-called ‘XRP standard,’” he wrote. “Rather than trading Dollars for Euros directly, you would trade USD for XRP, and then XRP for EUR, because this makes payments supposedly more efficient.”

He argued that XRP supporters prefer to describe this not as a bid for reserve-currency status, but as a narrower “bridge currency” role. In his view, that distinction does not materially change the argument. He said the larger problem is that the market structure envisioned by early XRP advocates was built in other ways over the past decade.

“The XRP vision was created over a decade ago before we had modern 200K TPS high-throughput chains, programmable smart contracts, DeFi protocols, fiat-backed stablecoins, tokenized deposits, atomic DvP/PvP swaps, and cross-chain infra,” Rynes wrote. “If you listen to what the world’s largest financial institutions and market infrastructures like Swift, DTCC, JP Morgan, BlackRock, and many others are saying, you’ll find zero of them talking about the need for a ‘bridge currency.’ Rather, they talk about the need for connectivity, interoperability, privacy, compliance, and orchestration.”
