Crypto stocks have had a rocky last two months, with top companies like Gemini, Strategy, and Coinbase seeing their stocks drop. As a result, Wall Street is far more split on the industry than it was at this point last year. Several price forecast revisions have been executed in March, painting a bearish picture for crypto stocks. Citibank was one of the latest firms to lower its forecast for several of these stocks. Citing the delay over the progress on the CLARITY Act, the bank recently lowered their Bitcoin forecast from $143,000 to $112,000 and the Ether forecast from $4,304 to $3,175.Additionally, Citi lowered its forecasts for Strategy (MSTR), Bullish (BLSH), Gemini (GEMI), and other crypto-based stocks. The sole exception, however, was Galaxy (GLXY). Galaxy Digital is a crypto-focused financial services firm. The Fed’s decision to hold interest rates came as expected.
But markets have further pared back expectations for cuts.
That’s bad news for risky assets like Bitcoin, which depend on liquidity.
The Federal Reserve’s hawkish tone zapped investors’ appetite for risky assets like Bitcoin, which saw its price tank by 5% to $70,000 following the US central bank’s Wednesday meeting.

And analysts say that traders shouldn’t expect the price to bounce back as long uncertainties remain over the economy caused by the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

“Looking ahead, Bitcoin is likely to trade in a more selective environment rather than a broad risk-on rally,” Illia Otychenko, lead analyst at crypto exchange CEX.IO, told DL News.

The bearish outlook comes as the Fed decided not to cut interest rates at its March meeting. Lower interest rates usually incentivise investors to bet on riskier assets.

During this period, the total crypto market cap increased by 23.4%, which translated into roughly $640 billion in fresh inflows.

Bitcoin [BTC] mirrored this momentum, closing the quarter up 30% and achieving the highest ROI of the year.

However, the main takeaway? This surge followed BTC’s roughly 12% correction in Q1, and the market has already outpaced that pullback with this year’s roughly 20% drop so far, showing how quickly it can rebound and adapt.

Against this backdrop, we cannot dismiss the possibility of a repeat run for crypto as overly optimistic.

Taken together, this suggests that the crypto market could be setting the stage for another strong rally. However, when we step back and look at the bigger picture, the total crypto market cap is still down roughly 18%, a stark contrast to the S&P 500’s 3.23% quarterly decline.

Naturally, the key question becomes: Can crypto’s relative strength hold up against a double-digit pullback and still power a bullish Q2?
