Ghana unveils sandbox for crypto companies as digital asset law takes effect

Ghana has launched a temporary crypto trading environment, starting with 11 companies, in preparation for the final implementation of its digital asset framework.  

According to Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the regulatory sandbox will last 12 months, with market-ready products set to graduate after 6 months. 

The watchdog added, 

This sandbox period aims to support responsible innovation while strengthening investor protection, market integrity, and compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards.

The data and feedback from the experiment period will inform the future licensing framework and guidelines for the sector. 

Here, it’s worth pointing out that the latest move is part of the implementation of the country’s Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154), to offer clear rules for the crypto trading sector

Amid ongoing volatile market conditions, the Ethereum treasury is turning heads, attracting a significant wave of demand and interest from corporate firms. After recent moves by multiple financial behemoths to own an ETH treasury reserve, the initiative is now positioned at a crucial moment that could trigger a new phase.

A new report from Leon Waidmann, an optimist and the head of research at Lisk, shows that Ethereum is experiencing an increasing wave of institutional belief as corporate treasury companies’ holdings of ETH reach all-time highs. Businesses are steadily including the leading altcoin on their balance sheets, indicating a broader shift in how they classify ETH.

Specifically, these large financial firms no longer view Ethereum as a speculative asset but as a strategic digital reserve asset within the evolving crypto economy. Looking back to a year ago, the Ethereum treasury was not a thing. However, within the period, the initiative has witnessed immense growth, with millions of ETH now held by corporate companies in the crypto and financial sectors.

Data shared by Waidmann shows that over 7.4 million ETH is now being held in treasury reserves among institutions. When compared to the overall supply of Ethereum in circulation, this figure represents approximately 6.6% of the stack.

It’s been over ten days since the West Asian crisis kicked off, and most big-cap assets are still hovering close to their pre-war prices. Even with oil shortages driving headlines and global FUD, the markets haven’t really cracked.

Bitcoin [BTC] is no different. In fact, out of roughly $110 billion added to the total crypto market during this period, nearly 73% has flowed into BTC, making this cycle very much “BTC-led.” Naturally, the big question now is, will all this resilience finally pay off once sentiment starts to shift?
Notably, this ties into a recent note from The Kobeissi Letter, which points to an important sentiment shift. 

From a technical standpoint, oil prices are back over $90/barrel, even after U.S. President Donald Trump said the war could end soon. This indicates that markets are still highly sensitive to uncertainty, a factor that keeps Bitcoin’s volatility squarely in play.

In this context, President Trump’s latest comments provide only a bit of reassurance rather than a fundamental change to the situation. Solana’s (SOL) recent climb back above $200 is a sign that the altcoin pivoted from a “meme-driven ecosystem” to a “high-beta, blue-chip alternative” that is attracting institutional attention.

According to MEXC Research chief analyst Shawn Young, the over 34% increase in July to the $202.52 price, as of press time, marks a shift in how the market values the Solana network.

In a note, Young highlighted that SOL outperformed both Bitcoin and Ethereum during the same stretch. Two key forces drive this move: anticipation of a Solana-focused exchange-traded fund (ETF) and tangible progress on core infrastructure.

The implication is that the alignment of institutional appetite, corporate treasury allocation, and network upgrades could let Solana lead the next rotation of capital into altcoins.

Technical enhancements

Young pointed to the Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM) announced by Jito Labs as the kind of technical advance that can change the narrative.

Programmable control over blockspace, lower MEV, and faster, cleaner sequencing would address persistent complaints about Solana’s reliability.

For institutional validators and sophisticated builders, those upgrades signal a network that is maturing, not just riding momentum.

ETF speculation is the other pillar. Young cited more than $73 million in pre-ETF commitments and nearly 3 million SOL moving into corporate wallets last month as evidence of a longer-term positioning shift.

Solana’s market capitalization has surpassed $100 billion, positioning it among the largest crypto.

The analyst argued that it reflects an evolution from speculation to foundation, as Solana can benefit from the proliferation of tokenized real-world assets and the increasing demand for high-throughput on-chain infrastructure.
