Solana Price Analysis for Mar 17: SOL Bulls Defend $94, but Can SOL Break Above $97?
Solana holds above key support as buyers defend recent gains, while resistance overhead continues to limit the latest breakout attempt.

Solana (SOL) is changing hands around $94.53, up 0.9% over the past 24 hours, after moving within a $92.71 to $97.26 intraday range. SOL is climbing steadily through the session before peaking above $97 shortly after midnight, then pulling back. 

Despite that retracement, the token avoided a deeper breakdown and rebounded from the $93.5–$94.0 area, suggesting buyers are still defending near-term support.
The current structure points to short-term consolidation with a mild bullish bias. SOL remains below the session high, so $96.5–$97.3 now stands out as the immediate resistance zone, while $93–$94 serves as the key support range. 

Broader performance metrics also show underlying strength, with SOL up 9.5% over seven days and 10.4% over 14 days.

CryptoQuant said bitcoin traders have turned bullish in futures markets ahead of the Fed’s rate decision, with long positions increasing, funding rates turning positive, and buy volume dominating.

Rising prices have triggered large bitcoin inflows to exchanges, signaling potential selling pressure, while bitcoin could face resistance between $75,000 and $85,000 if the rally continues, the firm added.

Bitcoin could face resistance between $75,000 and $85,000 even as traders turn bullish in derivatives markets ahead of the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision on Wednesday, according to CryptoQuant.

The onchain analytics firm said bitcoin traders have been positioning on the long side in perpetual futures markets in recent days, signaling expectations of further short-term upside.

"If bitcoin continues to rally, it could first find resistance at $75,000. This level represents the lower band of the Traders’ On-chain Realized Price (dotted blue line), which historically acts as price resistance in bear markets," CryptoQuant's head of research, Julio Moreno, wrote in a Tuesday report. "The next resistance level is near $85,000, corresponding to the Traders’ On-chain Realized Price (violet line). Indeed, this band acted as resistance in mid-January, after bitcoin rallied from $80,000 to $98,000, and in October 2025 (red circles)."

Powell’s tone dampens rate cut expectations

While the Fed’s decision to hold rates steady was largely expected, market reaction appears to have been driven by Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference and the central bank’s updated projections.

Powell reiterated that inflation remains elevated and warned that recent developments — particularly rising energy prices linked to Middle East tensions — could keep price pressures higher in the near term.

He noted that headline PCE inflation stood at 2.8%, with core inflation at 3.0%, both still above the Fed’s 2% target.

Crucially, Powell made clear that:

The Fed will remain data-dependent

It is too early to determine the full impact of geopolitical risks

This reinforced the view that rate cuts are not imminent — a key trigger for the market pullback.

The Fed’s projections and Powell’s remarks together strengthened the “higher-for-longer” narrative, which tends to weigh on speculative assets like crypto.
