Stablecoin neobank Fasset lands $1 billion valuation as SBI backs its payments push

Stablecoin-focused digital bank Fasset said Monday it has raised $68 million in a funding round led by Japan's SBI Group, valuing the company at $1 billion just three months after its previous financing.

The investment follows a $51 million round in May, bringing Fasset's total funding this year to $119 million. Early backer Speedinvest and a group of strategic investors participated in that earlier round.

Fasset, headquartered in Los Angeles, operates a financial platform that lets consumers and businesses hold, send, spend and invest across currencies and assets, using stablecoins as part of the settlement infrastructure behind the scenes. The company said it processes more than $40 billion in annualized transaction volume across 125 countries.

The firm’s business has expanded sharply over the past year, CEO Mohammad Raafi Hossain told CoinDesk. Revenue has grown roughly six-fold year over year, and the company has been profitable for 12 consecutive months, he said. Fasset did not disclose its revenue or profit figures.

Revenue came mainly from its institutional and retail businesses, including growing stablecoin payments and settlement activity, Hossain said. Cards and bank accounts are beginning to generate new revenue, he added.

The firm is part of a broader wave of fintechs building financial services around blockchain networks and stablecoins. Once used mainly to move money between crypto exchanges, stablecoins are increasingly playing a role in remittances, corporate treasury operations, and international payments. The use case is especially relevant in emerging markets, where cross-border transfers can pass through several correspondent banks, adding time and fees along the way.

ZK International said it received 205,512.5 AWA tokens on July 30 to settle a $20.02 million equity-financing receivable, but disclosed that the tokens remained unmonetized and their receipt-date fair value was unresolved. The update matters because management’s going-concern doubt persisted while the company depended on turning accounting assets into usable liquidity.

At March 31, ZK International’s continuing operations held $82,696 in cash and cash equivalents, equal to about 0.12% of $66.44 million in total assets. The company’s continuing business was a pipeline-monitoring components resale operation; AI computing services were still planned, and the AWA balance arose from financing rather than operating revenue.

Three balances accounted for $62.59 million, or 94.2%, of total assets: a $21.57 million prepayment for AI equipment, the $20.02 million digital-asset consideration receivable and a $21 million receivable from the disposal of eight subsidiaries. The company’s management discussion described those prepayments and receivables as distinct from cash or other immediately available liquid resources.

ZK International also reported a $17.02 million consolidated net loss for the six months through March and a $68.28 million accumulated deficit. Management concluded that substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern remained, despite plans to grow the resale business, seek more financing and introduce AI computing services.The crypto receivable originated in a February 27 private placement for up to 40.04 million shares at $0.50 each. The agreement allowed payment in dollars or cryptocurrency at the company’s discretion, and a March closing filing said the full 40.04 million shares had been issued.
