The company, known for its focus on building a Solana-based treasury strategy, has announced a $27.4 million share buyback—repurchasing more than 6 million shares from an institutional investor and cutting its total shares outstanding by about 7.4%.
What makes this especially interesting is how the deal was financed. Instead of selling assets, Forward secured a $40 million crypto-backed loan from Galaxy Digital, using its holdings of staked Solana as collateral.
This approach reflects a growing shift in how crypto-focused companies manage their balance sheets. Rather than liquidating tokens during downturns, firms are increasingly borrowing against them—freeing up capital while still maintaining long-term exposure. Forward’s CIO, Ryan Navi, made it clear that the goal is to increase “SOL per share,” meaning buybacks become attractive when the company’s stock is trading well below the value of its underlying assets.
Why now?
The timing is critical. Forward’s stock has dropped roughly 89% from last year’s highs, while its Solana holdings—bought at an average price of $232—are currently deep in the red, with SOL trading closer to $88.
That puts pressure on the company to act carefully but decisively.
What could happen next
Looking ahead, analysts expect Forward to lean heavily into active treasury management.
If Solana rebounds into the $150–$200 range, the company’s collateral position would strengthen significantly. That could open the door for more buybacks under its massive $1 billion authorization, potentially boosting shareholder value further.
On the flip side, if SOL remains weak, Forward may have to tighten its belt—fast.

The CEO expects Bitcoin to stabilize between $65,000 and $90,000 at the current stage, with any sudden drops to $55,000 potentially marking the “bottom.”

While acknowledging that Bitcoin ETFs are an important interface for institutional entry, Barhydt stated that for the price to truly explode, retail investors need to fully return. Reminding that the current market is still largely retail-focused, the CEO added that the real bull rally will be shaped by the sentiment of this group.

One of Barhydt’s most striking predictions concerns the digitalization of traditional assets. Arguing that all portfolios will be digitized within the next 10-15 years, Barhydt predicts that the tokenization of stocks will fundamentally change the financial world. Abra has also announced plans for an IPO (via SPAC) in line with this trend, aiming to be a leader at the intersection of wealth management and digital assets.

Barhydt stated that they used artificial intelligence (AI) within the company to increase operational speed tenfold, and said that in the future, in a world where machines pay each other (machine-to-machine payments), cryptocurrencies will be the main means of payment.

Coinbase's bitcoin yield fund goes onchain with Apex's tokenization push



Exchange giant Coinbase's (COIN) asset management arm is bringing its bitcoin yield fund onchain, creating a tokenized share class of the fund with $3.5 trillion fund administrator Apex Group.

The Coinbase Bitcoin Yield Fund, managed by Coinbase Asset Management (CBAM), will be available to investors on the Base network, Coinbase's blockchain built on Ethereum. Apex remains the transfer agent, keeping records aligned with the fund’s net asset value.

The launch comes as global asset managers are looking at tokenization as the next frontier in how capital markets evolve, making bonds, equites and funds tradable on blockchain rails. Firms including BlackRock (BLK), Fidelity and Franklin Templeton have introduced tokenized funds in recent years, aiming to speed up settlement times, cut costs and open new distribution channels.

Brett Tejpaul, head of Coinbase Institutional, said the company's asset management business already has a lot of institutional capital allocated, with many investors holding core positions in bitcoin and ether.

“Incrementally, we're getting new capital coming to the space that wants the ability to get compounded returns, so their bet isn't just on the appreciation of bitcoin, but while they're waiting for it to rise in price, they’re earning yield along the way,” he told CoinDesk.

“The bitcoin yield fund allows them to do that by virtue of doing things like selling call options or participating in lending arrangements.”

Tokenized assets are potentially a multiple-trillion-dollar market, with estimates ranging from McKinsey's projection of $2 trillion by 2030 to BCG and Ripple's $18.9 trillion target by 2033.
