Bitcoin options are coming to Nadaq. Here's what it means for you.Nasdaq has moved closer to offering cash-settled bitcoin index options, a move set to democratize crypto risk management and eliminate legacy operational barriers.

Last week, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission granted Nasdaq PHLX conditional approval to list European-style options under the ticker QBTC. These will be cash-settled, European-style options tracking the CME CF Bitcoin Real Time Index (BRTT).

Cash-settled means the options are settled in U.S. dollars. At expiration, the exchange credits or debits the cash difference between the strike price and the final index value and no actual bitcoin is delivered or received.

For the average market participant, the new product, still pending approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), removes operational friction. QBTC options will trade on the same Nasdaq platform as popular technology stocks, allowing participants to execute hedging strategies and bitcoin volatility bets directly through their existing brokerage accounts without needing a separate futures or derivatives account.

By contrast, CME's bitcoin options, which have been available since 2020, are also cash-settled but track Bitcoin futures rather than the spot index. They also require a dedicated derivatives account, adding operational complexity.

The story doesn’t end there.

Each Nasdaq QBTC option contract delivers exposure equivalent to exactly 1 $BTC, using a 1/100th index scaling factor with a standard $100 multiplier. By comparison, the CME’s standard Bitcoin option is sized at 5 $BTC, often representing hundreds of thousands of dollars in notional exposure.

This much smaller contract size opens the door for precise hedging by smaller institutional managers and more affordable volatility trading for retail participants.

The token pushed past its previous peak after briefly dipping to $55 a day earlier, a swing that did little to slow its momentum. It had already touched $62.24 on May. 21, a level reported widely as the prior record before Saturday's move.
The rally followed the launch of two U.S.-listed HYPE exchange-traded funds, which channeled steady institutional money toward the token.
Funds from Bitwise and 21 Shares both went live this month, and wallets tied to Grayscale accumulated roughly $25 million in tokens through over-the-counter desks.
Other large-cap coins joined the advance.
Ethereum (ETH) defended the $2,000 mark and rose past $2,100 after a 4.5% daily gain, while XRP (XRP) reclaimed $1.35 and Solana (SOL) traded near $87. Double-digit gains showed up across NEAR (NEAR), Ondo (ONDO), Worldcoin (WLD), and Quant (QNT).

Van de Poppe Sees $100 Path
Analyst Michiel van de Poppe argued that Hyperliquid could lead the next altcoin rally as traders rotate back into riskier assets.
He said European traders increasingly favor the platform because regulated venues there make perpetual futures hard to reach.
Van de Poppe added that HYPE could climb toward $100 or higher if appetite across crypto markets keeps strengthening.
The wider tape backed the optimism. The total crypto market capitalization has climbed more than $80 billion since Friday's low, reaching $2.65 trillion, a 3% rise over 24 hours with Bitcoin dominance near 58%.

HYPE's record run caps a remarkable year.

Over the past week, Bitcoin has traded sideways in the high $70,000 region, unable to reclaim the psychological $82,000 level that has eluded market bulls since mid-May. Notably, the $76,000 price level has now been tested three weeks in a row and held each time, emerging as a real support zone. However, an obscure on-chain metric may be flashing the clearest bottom signal in Bitcoin’s history.
Key Bearish Signal Arises From Investor Cost Basis Data
In an X post on May 22, CryptoChan shares data from an historically reliable bottom indicator built from two realized price bands: the 6m–10y Realized Price, representing the average acquisition cost of long-term holders, currently at $60,316; and the 0–10y Realized Price, a broader market average cost basis, sitting at $64,412.  The ratio between these two bands indicates how stressed long-term holders are relative to the broader market. When it drops below 0.936 and then recovers back toward 1.0, it has marked the precise bottom moment in every prior Bitcoin cycle.
This is because when the ratio touches 1.0, the green line (long-term holder cost) overtakes the black line (full market cost), meaning even the most conviction-driven holders are underwater. That is the moment when selling pressure is fully exhausted, and market sentiment is in extreme panic. In the 2015 bear market bottom, the ratio took 59 days to climb from 0.936 back to 1.0. In the 2018–2019 bear bottom, the recovery took 66 days. In the November 2022 FTX collapse-driven bottom, the journey took 50 days. The ratio is presently at 0.936 again. If the current reading holds and historical data repeats itself, Bitcoin’s definitive bottom window may open sometime around mid-to-late July 2026.
