Bitcoin holds $79,000, ether, solana slip as traders bank a week of gainsBitcoin eased to around the $79,000 mark in Asian morning hours Wednesday, down almost 1% on the day, as traders took profits after a week that lifted it 23%.

XRP fell hardest among the majors, down over 4% to just above $1.44, though it still leads the week at almost 45%. Privacy-focused Zcash dropped almost 6% to just above $783 while holding a 55% weekly gain, the strongest of the group, as a dedicated spot ETF went live in the US.

Dogecoin slid almost 5% to just under 9 cents, solana over 3% to just under $97, and tron almost 3% to nearly 34 cents.

BNB fell almost 2% to just over $695 and ether over 1% to just under $2,465, keeping weekly gains of almost 16% and 29% respectively. Hyperliquid's HYPE was the only major higher, up almost 3% to just over $81 and almost 40% on the week.

Valuation measures moved the other way. CryptoQuant's Bull Score, which tracks 10 market and onchain indicators, jumped from 30 to 80 over the week, its highest since Oct. 6, 2025, when bitcoin traded near $124,000. Eight of the 10 indicators are now bullish.

Apparent spot demand is growing at its fastest monthly pace since late December, the firm shared in a note with CoinDesk, and spot and futures demand are expanding together for the first time since early October 2025.

South Korea to Debate Scrapping One Exchange-One Bank Rule for Crypto Firms.South Korea’s National Policy Committee is set to debate a bill today that would eliminate the so-called one exchange-one bank rule, a regulation requiring digital asset exchanges to partner with a single bank for real-name account services. The amendment, part of the Act on Reporting and Use of Certain Financial Transaction Information, is among 136 bills on the agenda for the full committee meeting at the National Assembly.

What the Amendment ProposesThe proposed change would allow virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to obtain real-name verified deposit and withdrawal accounts from one or more financial institutions. Currently, exchanges must maintain a single banking partnership, a rule introduced in 2018 to curb money laundering and enhance transparency in crypto trading. The amendment also stipulates that the standards, conditions, and procedures for opening such accounts would be set by presidential decree, granting the government flexibility to adjust requirements as the market evolves.

If passed, the change could significantly alter the operational landscape for crypto exchanges in South Korea. Exchanges have long complained that the one-bank rule limits their ability to scale services and negotiate favorable terms. By allowing multiple banking partners, the amendment could foster greater competition among banks and improve access to banking services for smaller exchanges, which have often struggled to secure partnerships due to risk-averse lenders.

Bitcoin’s 7 million coin quantum problem just reached the US Treasury

The US Treasury has formally brought digital assets into the financial sector’s preparations for quantum computing threats.

On Aug. 24, the US Treasury launched its Quantum-Readiness Task Force, with one of three workstreams dedicated to digital assets and emerging-technology risks. The other tracks cover broader post-quantum cryptography adoption and third-party vendor readiness.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said:

“America must lead in securing the technologies that power our economy. This Task Force will help ensure our financial system remains strong, secure, and competitive as new technologies reshape the global landscape.”

This creates a government-industry forum for crypto custodians and infrastructure providers to coordinate on a future migration to quantum-safe technology.The public-private group will bring together government agencies, financial institutions, market infrastructure operators and technology providers to identify critical cryptographic dependencies, improve interoperability and prepare for implementation challenges as existing encryption becomes vulnerable to more powerful quantum computers.

For crypto companies, that could mean examining how cryptography is embedded across custody systems, transaction signing, authentication and third-party infrastructure, and whether those systems can eventually migrate without disrupting customer access or interoperability.

Treasury did not impose a migration deadline on Bitcoin, Ethereum or private digital-asset companies. Changes to blockchain signature systems would still require separate engineering and governance decisions within individual networks.

The initiative follows President Donald Trump’s June executive order accelerating the federal government’s own transition.

But, as is usually the case, what goes up must come down. And now $XRP’s hot streak is cooling, dropping as much as 2% earlier today.$XRP isn't the only top-10 coin pulling back today, but among the decliners, $XRP's drop is one of the shallowest.

$XRP price: What the charts say
$XRP is trading at $1.4554 on the daily chart, down from a $1.5505 high, in a recovery that still hasn't escaped a longer-term downtrend.For the better part of April through July, $XRP ground lower, bottoming near $1.00 in early August. Since then the move has been vertical—a roughly 55% rip to $1.55, with the Average Directional Index (an indicator that measures trend strength, regardless of direction) at 44.8 confirming this was no weak bounce but a strong directional leg.

But running too hot for too long can cause issues, and this leg ran straight to $1.55, then reversed. The latest daily candle closed at $1.4554 after opening at $1.4818, the second straight down day. This has the shape of a relief rally stalling under resistance, not a trend reversal.
