Coinbase has introduced a major upgrade to the x402 protocol, bringing usage-based pricing to AI compute requests and replacing the previous flat-fee model. This update is designed to better support the growing demand for agentic AI services, including large language model inference, compute workloads, and complex data queries.

Previously, the x402 protocol relied on fixed pricing, which worked well for simple and predictable API calls but failed to accommodate tasks where costs vary depending on usage. This often led to inefficiencies, where users either overpaid for simple tasks or underpaid for more complex operations.

With the launch of the new “Upto” scheme, a more flexible pricing structure is now in place. Sellers can define a maximum price for a service, while buyers can approve spending up to a specified limit. The system then charges only the actual cost required to complete the task, ensuring fair and accurate billing.

This change significantly improves the user experience by removing the need to estimate costs beforehand. Instead of guessing how much an AI task might cost, users can set a maximum budget and rely on the system to calculate the exact usage-based charge.

The Upto scheme is built on an EVM-compatible framework, supporting all ERC20 tokens, and also enables fully gasless payments through Coinbase Developer Platform’s facilitator. This ensures smoother and more efficient transactions, which is critical for scaling AI-driven applications.

The upgrade comes at a time when interest in agentic AI and automated digital commerce is rapidly increasing. These systems are expected to generate high levels of network demand and require seamless, near-instant payment solutions to function effectively.

TD Cowen cuts Strategy price target to $350, initiates coverage of Sharplink, Strive, Nakamoto and Smarter Web with buy ratings
TD Cowen cut its Strategy price target by 20.5% to $350, citing weaker bitcoin assumptions and a revised valuation for future dollar BTC gains.

The firm simultaneously initiated buy-rated coverage of digital asset treasury firms Sharplink, Strive, Nakamoto Holdings, and The Smarter Web Company.

TD Cowen reduced its price target on Strategy (MSTR) to $350, a 20.5% cut from the prior $440, while holding its buy rating on the largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin. The investment bank also added coverage of four smaller digital asset treasury firms, assigning buy ratings to each.

In a note to investors on Thursday, TD Cowen analysts Lance Vitanza and Jonathan Navarrete attributed the revised Strategy price target to a "lower bitcoin price deck" and a reduction in the valuation multiple applied to the company's projected bitcoin gains. 

The analysts project Strategy's "BTC gain" at $7.87 billion for fiscal year 2026, down from $10.17 billion in 2025, though their investment thesis remains rooted in the company's ability to convert market appetite for volatility into bitcoin on an "effectively leveraged basis."

Strategy, which transitioned from an enterprise software focus to a bitcoin treasury model in 2020, currently holds a net debt of $5.94 billion and has a market capitalization of $41.88 billion, according to TD Cowen. The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based company holds 766,970 BTC acquired at an average price of $75,700 per BTC, The Block’s data dashboard shows. 

TD Cowen's base case for Strategy assumes bitcoin reaches $140,000 by December 2026, with the company acquiring about $5 billion in bitcoin per quarter.

Securitize Integrates with TRON to Bring Tokenized Real-World Assets to One of the World’s Largest Blockchains
Geneva & Miami – [April 10, 2026] — Securitize (which has announced a proposed business combination with Cantor Equity Partners II, Inc. (Nasdaq: CEPT)), the world’s leader in tokenizing real-world assets, today announced an integration with the TRON blockchain, a global network known for its scale in digital asset payments and decentralized finance. The integration expands Securitize’s multichain footprint and positions tokenized securities to access one of the largest and most active blockchain ecosystems globally.

Tokenized funds and securities issued through Securitize will be made available on TRON, joining a network with over 373 million accounts, $26 billion in total value locked, and upwards of $7.9 trillion in annual transfer volume. The integration will support the launch of a new real-world asset product expected to debut on TRON, with further details to be announced in the near future. Securitize works with leading global asset managers, indicating the level of institutional participation that may be reflected in future fund offerings on the network.
