Another DeFi exploit highlights ongoing security risks in the crypto space.

The Sui-based DeFi protocol Volo has reported a security breach resulting in approximately $3.5 million in losses. The attack targeted specific vaults and involved assets such as WBTC, XAUm, and USDC.

The team responded quickly by freezing the affected vaults, notifying the Sui Foundation, and working with ecosystem partners to contain the damage. So far, around $2 million of the stolen funds have been successfully frozen or blocked, including a failed attempt by the attacker to bridge WBTC.

Volo confirmed that approximately $28 million in total value locked remains secure, and no system-wide vulnerability has been identified. The protocol also stated that it plans to absorb the losses instead of passing them on to users, which may help maintain confidence.

However, this incident comes shortly after another major DeFi exploit, raising concerns about the overall security of decentralized finance platforms. Reports indicate that more than $17 billion has been lost to crypto-related hacks over the past decade, with private key compromises, phishing, and unknown attack methods being the main causes.

Security continues to be one of the biggest challenges in DeFi. Users should remain cautious, regularly review permissions, and prioritize asset protection.
