Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has criticized the latest Bitcoin (BTC) proposal to protect vulnerable assets from quantum-computing threats. The three-step approach touted as a possible lifeline might face another setback due to Satoshi-era coins.Hoskinson analyzed developments in the Bitcoin ecosystem, comparing solutions to those of top altcoins. The BIP-361, which seeks to save more than a third of Bitcoin’s supply, approximately worth over $536 billion, has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. The plan is expected to make all assets quantum-resistant to prevent losses likely to occur in the next five years. However, experts say freezing coins that don’t migrate to quantum-resistant addresses will not solve all problems.In the coming months, the three-phase proposal will replace older signature schemes. Initially, inflows to quantum-vulnerable addresses will be blocked before legacy coins are frozen. The final phase is more contentious because it allows recovery of Bitcoins that missed their deadlines.While it’s acceptable to many, it doesn’t account for coins held before 2013. These assets, about 1.7 million BTC, were created before the key generation of BIP-39.“34% of all Bitcoin is vulnerable… and here’s your hard fork here. They don’t want to admit it, but this will require a hard fork. Users with frozen quantum vulnerable funds can construct a quantum safe product to recover funds… that’s a lie! And you know it. 1.7 million coins can’t do that. It’s not possible.”Hoskinson and other critics noted that the plan could recover some of the assets, making it not an entirely bad proposal. He noted that inaction could result in massive losses if quantum computers breach Bitcoin’s cryptography.It should be noted that 1.1 million BTC belongs to Satoshi Nakamoto, the blockchain’s pseudonymous creator. Pi Network This Week: Smart Contracts, Whale Buying, and a Deadline Every Node Operator Must Know
Pi is trading between $0.165 and $0.178 and has been stuck there for weeks. The price story is bearish, but everything around it is not.

Where the Price Stands

The important level to watch is $0.171. Until Pi closes a daily candle above it, the recovery thesis stays on hold. Resistance stacks up quickly above that level:

20-day EMA at $0.175

50-day EMA at $0.181

100-day EMA near $0.19

The one constructive signal in the charts is the MACD, which has flattened to zero for the first time since February. That indicates selling pressure is fading. It does not confirm that buyers have arrived yet, but the shift in momentum is worth noting.

The Upgrade Deadline Nobody Should Miss

The most immediate event is the April 27 deadline for all node operators to upgrade to Protocol 22. Miss it, and nodes get disconnected from the network. No exceptions.

This deadline is part of a broader upgrade sequence that is moving faster than most Pi holders realise:

April 22: Protocol 22.1 rollout begins the upgrade cycle

April 27: Hard deadline for Protocol 22 compliance

May 18: Protocol 23 expected to introduce smart contracts

Beyond that: Early signals point to a push toward Protocol 26 before Pi2Day

Developers are already being told to prepare their applications for smart contract compatibility. That is a meaningful shift in what Pi could support as a platform.

The Fundamentals Stacking Up

Away from the price chart, three developments stand out this week:

18 million KYC-verified users. Pi continues to argue that its user base is different from that of every other crypto network. These are confirmed humans, not wallet addresses.

A whale accumulated 350 million PI. Large accumulation at current prices signals someone with long-term conviction is buying the range rather than exiting it.

Cardano is already being used by roughly 200 large companies in Germany through agentic AI deployments, even if those firms do not realize the blockchain is sitting underneath their stack, according to Cardano Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard. The claim, made during an interview with Jane King on GBBC’s Markets on Chain series from the New York Stock Exchange published April 16, points to a version of blockchain adoption that is less visible to end users but potentially more embedded in enterprise infrastructure.

200 German Companies Use Cardano Without Even Knowing It

Gregaard framed the Cardano Foundation’s role as pushing blockchain into systems people use without necessarily recognizing it. “We have about 200 companies in Germany who live on agentic AI, fairly large companies, and they don’t even know they’re using Cardano as a security layer, as a digital identity layer and as an accountability layer,” he said. “Part of when you have, for instance, agentic AI who’s using data from two different databases, [is] ensuring that the agentic AI is who they say they are, that they have the data they claim without disclosing it, because we want privacy.”

That argument was central to Gregaard’s broader pitch: blockchain, in his view, is becoming an underlying trust and coordination layer for AI-driven systems rather than simply a rails story for tokens or payments. He described a model where users could interact with seamless consumer applications while Cardano handles provenance, identity and compliance in the background. The point was less about visible crypto branding than about infrastructure-level deployment.

"We're starting to see projects that used to require big teams now be accomplished by a single very talented person." That was Mark Zuckerberg, talking up the rise of artificial intelligence inside Meta this year. On Friday, Reuters reported the corollary: the Meta layoffs investors had been bracing for are coming, with roughly 8,000 jobs cut starting May 20, about 10% of its 79,000-person workforce.

Bettors on Polymarket, the prediction market backed by Wall Street's Intercontinental Exchange, saw it coming. The site's Meta headcount and Meta share-price markets, with about $112,000 in combined volume, were already pricing the cuts as both inevitable and good for the stock before Reuters published. The broader "Tech Layoffs Up or Down in 2026?" book has been at 77% Up all month and the Q1 companion has collapsed to 96% Up, essentially calling the quarter resolved before it formally settles on May 5.

How Many Tech Workers Polymarket Sees Losing Jobs

The Meta-specific markets tell the cleaner version of the story. A Polymarket book on "Meta headcount above ___ in Q1?" with about $46,000 in volume is essentially certain Meta finished the quarter above 75,000 employees (99%) and 76,000 (98%), but only gives 32% odds it stayed above 77,000 and 11% odds above 78,000. That implies an end-of-Q1 headcount near 76,500, down from the 79,000 figure Reuters used as the baseline. About 2,500 Meta jobs are already gone. The May 20 wave will take that to roughly 11,000 cuts on the year.

The market is pricing the cuts as good news for the stock. A separate "What price will Meta hit in April?" book with $66,000 in volume has Meta already clearing $700 (85% Yes), $730 priced at 42%, and a downside dip to $540 trading at just 5.75%. The combined volume on the Meta-specific markets is over

The film features Entourage alum Adrian Grenier in a key supporting role, alongside UFC champion and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo in his acting debut, and House star Odette Annable. After a private Sundance screening and pickup by Inaugural Entertainment for distribution, Self Custody (2026) arrived on Tubi and Plex before landing on Amazon Prime Video—delivering a compact, terrifying yet entertaining tale drawn from real-world stories of lost Bitcoin wallets.

Scott, a family man, finds himself in financial trouble after failing to organize his finances when his family friend and accountant gives him a call. Turns out Scott had gotten a signing bonus from some tech company he worked for in 2014, paid in Bitcoin. Today, presumably well into the 2020’s, that bonus is worth over 14 million dollars. The film follows Scott as he tries to claim this Bitcoin, quickly realizing his self-custody setup was done improperly, and he does not remember the PIN code to the wallet. 

The film is overall negative on self-custody as a practice, presenting the absolute worst-case scenario for a Bitcoin or crypto owner. A series of mistakes, presented as innocent but really born out of a lack of study or knowledge of the technology and industry, led Scott to catastrophic loss, in admittedly a very entertaining and action-packed fashion.

Can Ethereum Price Break $2,400 and Confirm a Bullish Trend Reversal?

Ethereum price is basically stuck right under a ceiling, and $2,400 is the level doing all the damage, because it lines up with both resistance and the 100-day EMA, and every push into it keeps getting rejected.

The structure underneath still looks solid, though, with price holding above the 20 and 50-day averages, which keeps the bias slightly bullish as long as that holds.

Momentum is kind of neutral right now, RSI is sitting in the middle, and MACD is still weak but flattening, which usually means a bigger move is building but has not picked a direction yet.

If ETH can break above $2,400 with real volume, that is where things open up quickly toward $2,500 and higher, because the structure is already in place for continuation.

But if it keeps failing at this level, a pullback becomes more likely, with $2,200 as the first area that needs to hold, and if that goes, it can slide further down fast.

So this is one of those tight setups where everything comes down to one level, break it, and it runs, fail it again, and it pulls back.
