Bitcoin's recovery hits a Fed ceiling with no sign of cheaper money

Powell may stay chair pro tem if Warsh's confirmation stalls, and that uncertainty is keeping Bitcoin's recovery rally under a macro ceiling. Bitcoin's latest recovery has pushed the flagship digital asset back toward the $75,000 level, tracking a broader return in risk appetite as hopes for de-escalation in the Middle East lifted global equities to fresh records.

However, the move is running into a quieter constraint than geopolitics or crypto-specific sentiment: the bond market still shows a Federal Reserve that remains in no hurry to loosen policy.

That backdrop has become more important as the succession battle at the US central bank enters a more volatile phase.

The Senate Banking Committee has scheduled Kevin Warsh's confirmation hearing for April 21, while Jerome Powell's current term as chair ends on May 15.

Powell's term as a Fed governor runs until Jan. 31, 2028, and he said last month that if his successor is not confirmed by the time his chairmanship expires, he would serve as chair pro tem until that happens.

Bitcoin whales just bought the most BTC since 2013 – so why is the price stuck below $80,000?

Whales quietly drain exchange supply as ETFs and treasuries test how Bitcoin behaves in a thinner, more fragile market.
Bitcoin has spent much of 2026 moving between recovery attempts and macro shocks, yet one part of the market has kept moving in a single direction. Large holders have been buying.

On April 16, Bitfinex highlighted CryptoQuant data showing whales accumulated 270,000 BTC over the previous 30 days, the largest buying spree since 2013, while exchange reserves fell to their lowest level since December 2017.

That combination carries more weight than usual, pointing to a market where available supply is thinning beneath the surface, even while price remains far below the October 2025 all-time high of $126,198.
As of press time, CryptoSlate’s Bitcoin data page shows BTC trading near $74,500, up 0.9% over 24 hours, 3.3% over seven days, and 0.7% over 30 days. Market capitalization stands near $1.5 trillion, and 24-hour volume is just above $41.2 billion.
Those numbers describe a market that has regained balance after a bruising first quarter, though they only show part of the supply picture that the CryptoQuant chart is starting to expose. Price has recovered enough to draw fresh attention, while the deeper change sits in where the coins are and who holds them.

Coins on exchanges are available for quick sale. Coins moved into colder, longer-duration hands take more time and stronger conviction to bring back into the market.

When that transfer happens at scale, price can stay quiet for a period and then respond much more sharply once fresh demand pushes into a thinner pool of supply. That is the core development behind the latest whale activity.

In a recent live discussion, Neuner highlighted what he called a “Trump-style recovery,” where risk assets have staged a strong V-shaped rebound. The S&P 500 has pushed to new all-time highs, while Bitcoin climbed above $74,000, even as macro headwinds such as geopolitical tensions, sticky inflation, and elevated oil prices continue to weigh on sentiment.
Global equity markets are following a similar pattern. Japan’s Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi are trading near record highs, with the Kospi up roughly 50% year-to-date — reflecting broad strength across risk assets.
Despite the rally, sentiment remains deeply divided. Some analysts tied to the four-year Bitcoin cycle argue the true bull market cannot restart until later in the year and expect a possible retest toward $50,000. Meanwhile, altcoin traders remain frustrated as Bitcoin dominance stays elevated, leaving assets like Solana at multi-month lows relative to BTC.
On the other hand, several on-chain and macro indicators suggest strong underlying demand. The S&P 500’s near 10% surge in just 10 days ranks in the 99.7th percentile of historical returns since 1950. The Fear & Greed Index has remained in extreme fear territory for an extended period, while whale wallets have accumulated approximately 270,000 BTC over the past 30 days — the highest level since 2013.
Stablecoin liquidity has also expanded sharply, reaching an estimated $320 billion, while negative funding rates point to heavily positioned shorts — conditions that have historically preceded short squeezes.
Institutional activity continues to play a major role. MicroStrategy raised $6.3 billion through its “Stretch” preferred stock offering, with proceeds fully allocated to Bitcoin purchases.

According to a report by Denmark’s central bank, Danmarks Nationalbank, the lack of support from most financial institutions and punitive taxes were partly to blame for the slow adoption. 

Compared to the U.K., where 12% of the population owns crypto, Denmark has a 3x slower adoption rate. 

The data reinforced a Chainalysis report that showed Denmark ranked 22nd across the EU region in terms of crypto adoption. According to the latter, the top crypto activities and adoption were concentrated in Russia, the United Kingdom, and Germany. 

Unsurprisingly, most of Denmark’s crypto owners were below 40 years of age. This was consistent with the broader trend of the younger generation embracing new technologies more than older ones.
