In the last few hours, silver fell sharply and gold also declined, wiping hundreds of billions of dollars from the metals market. At the same time, Bitcoin managed to reclaim the $73,000 level, even as geopolitical tensions and economic concerns dominate global headlines.

This unusual divergence is raising an important question: why are traditional safe havens falling while Bitcoin rises?

Gold and Silver See Sudden Sell-Off

Gold and silver markets experienced a sharp drop within a short period of time. According to market trackers, roughly $1 trillion in market value was wiped from the precious metals sector in just a few hours as both metals moved lower simultaneously.

Silver dropped significantly, falling below key support levels while gold also declined more than 2% during the sell-off.

Normally, geopolitical tensions or economic uncertainty push investors toward safe haven assets such as gold and silver. However, the recent move suggests something different may be happening in global markets.

One possible explanation is liquidity stress. When investors face uncertainty or margin pressure, they sometimes sell profitable assets — including metals — to raise cash.

Another factor may be profit-taking after strong rallies. Precious metals have surged in recent months, and some traders could be locking in gains during heightened volatility.

Cryptocurrency prediction markets are projecting minimal growth for $XRP by the end of March, with the price likely to remain below $2.

In this line, Polymarket prediction market activity points to a moderate outlook for $XRP, with traders assigning the highest probability to the token trading around $1.60, according to data retrieved on March 14.

Notably, the $1.60 level carries the largest probability at 41%, indicating that participants view it as the most likely price zone for $XRP at the end of March.

The next most probable outcome places the token at $1.20, which holds a 29% chance. Other outcomes carry significantly lower probabilities, with a move to $1.80 is assigned a 12% likelihood, while the chances of $XRP trading at $1 stand at 10%.

More extreme outcomes on either side of the spectrum remain unlikely, according to the market.

On the other hand, the probability of $XRP reaching $2 is about 5%, while $2.20 holds a 3% chance. Higher price levels, such as $2.40, $2.60, $2.80, $3.00, and $3.20 each, carry roughly a 1% probability.

On the downside, the market has assigned limited chances to deeper declines. A drop to $0.80 holds about a 4% probability, while $0.60 and $0.40 each sit near 1%. The likelihood of $XRP falling to $0.20 is estimated at below 1%.

$XRP price consolidating

Meanwhile, $XRP is consolidating around the $1.40 level, with the asset having been mostly impacted by the broader cryptocurrency market downturn led by Bitcoin (BTC). However, in the last 24 hours, $XRP has shown modest moves.

The asset briefly touched a 24-hour high near $1.42 before easing as the broader crypto market stabilizes.

In this case, $XRP is stabilizing thanks to factors such as retail inflows into $XRP ETFs, which have been particularly notable.

According to Visser, the risk of contagion similar to the 2008 financial crisis is looming in the financial world, and this could create a "supercycle" that serves Bitcoin's original purpose.

Visser stated that the private credit market, worth approximately $4 trillion, carries a greater systemic risk than commonly believed. Arguing that restrictions on traditional banking (such as Dodd-Frank) have caused debt to shift to "off-balance sheet" areas and opaque private markets, Visser said:

"We are in a K-type economy where lower income groups are struggling. We will see who is who when liquidity starts to be drawn from the private credit market. Financial stocks have already fallen below their 200-day moving averages; this is usually the beginning of bad things."

Visser compared the current situation to the 1998 Russian crisis and the 2008 Great Financial Crisis. He noted that rising oil prices and inflationary pressures are putting central banks in a tight spot, and pointed out that historically, Bitcoin's biggest surges have occurred immediately following financial shocks.

According to Visser, investors will turn to Bitcoin as they shy away from "illiquid" and "non-transparent" assets like private loans and real estate. While the "doors closing" in the private loan market traps investors, Bitcoin offers 24/7 liquidity and complete transparency through the blockchain.
