Ethereum Ecosystem Grew in 2025 Even as ETH Price Lagged: Everstake

Everstake, a crypto staking provider, said in a new report that 2025 was a “year of sharp contrasts” for Ethereum, filled with major network upgrades and rising institutional adoption even as the price of ETH remained relatively flat.

In its Ethereum Staking Insights & Protocol Analysis report, Everstake said total value staked reached about 36.08 million ETH, or roughly 29.3% of supply, with net growth of more than 1.8 million ETH. As of Tuesday, Jan. 27, about 36.5 million ETH is staked – roughly 30.26% of supply, according to Coinbase data.

The report also highlighted continued growth in network activity, with Ethereum Layer 1 (L1) transactions rising about 30% over the year to around 1.5-1.6 million per day, while Layer 2 throughput surpassed roughly 300-330 transactions per second (TPS).

The findings underscore that Ethereum has continued to scale and attract larger players despite ETH’s underperformance. Currently, Ethereum’s total value locked (TVL) stands at nearly $72 billion, while Ether is changing hands at $2,930, up 4% on the day, but down 10% over the year.

Everstake said the Layer 1 is increasingly being used as a settlement layer, while most day-to-day activity has shifted to Layer 2. The findings pointed to protocol upgrades, including Pectra, which introduced EIP-7251 to raise the maximum effective validator balance from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, allowing large stakers to consolidate validators.

ARK Invest cuts Coinbase as it reworks crypto holdings

​Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest kept trimming its exposure to Coinbase on Friday, unloading about $22 million of the crypto exchange’s shares across three exchange-traded funds even as the stock surged in the session. At the same time, the firm increased its stake in digital-asset platform Bullish, signaling a continued rotation within crypto-linked equities.

ARK extends Coinbase selling across flagship ETFs

According to ARK’s daily trade disclosures, the manager sold 92,737 shares of Coinbase Global from the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), 32,790 shares from the Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) and 8,945 shares from the Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF) — 134,472 shares in total, valued at about $22.1 million, Cointelegraph report.

Industry data showed that Coinbase shares surged on Friday, closing at around $165, up roughly 13% on the day, though they remain down about 26% year to date.

Bullish additions point to a rotation, not an exit

Bullish shares ended near $27, up about 10% on the day, but were down about 27% year-to-date, according to the report. The company posted a $563.6 million net loss in the fourth quarter of 2025, or $3.73 per diluted share, reversing a $158.5 million profit a year earlier.

Alongside the crypto-related trades, ARK added Alphabet, Recursion Pharmaceuticals and Tempus AI, while cutting positions in growth names including Roku, The Trade Desk and PagerDuty, according to the report.

The main distinction is that it replaces the existing method of digital signature in Bitcoin with a new quantum-resistant one. Specifically, it employs an ML-DSA algorithm that is NIST-approved as opposed to the present-day ECDSA signatures used by Bitcoin. It will be used to create a sandbox into which developers and researchers can play and learn more about quantum-safe security tools.

This testnet leaves the actual Bitcoin network unchanged. It is a totally autonomous and experimental network for future planning.

About Quantum Computing and Bitcoin

The security of Bitcoin is dependent on the application of a form of mathematics known as elliptic curve cryptography (ECDSA) to sign and authorize transactions. This math is extremely powerful against current normal computers. But in theory, a quantum computer with enough power and a special algorithm (Shor’s algorithm) would be able to crack it and derive a private key.
