The Ethereum Foundation sold 5,000 ETH at an average price of $2,042.96 to BitMine Immersion Technologies, the world’s largest publicly traded ETH treasury company.

The deal is the EF’s second known OTC sale to a corporate buyer, following a 10,000 ETH sale to SharpLink Gaming in July 2025.
The Ethereum Foundation said Saturday it finalized an over-the-counter sale of 5,000 ETH, worth approximately $10.2 million, to BitMine Immersion Technologies.

The average price was $2,042.96 per ETH, roughly in line with current market levels. The onchain transaction will come from an EF Safe multisig wallet, the foundation said in a post on X.

BitMine (NYSE American: BMNR), chaired by Fundstrat's Tom Lee, is the world's largest publicly traded ETH treasury company, holding over 4.5 million ETH valued at roughly $9.3 billion, according to The Block's treasury tracker. The company has been aggressively accumulating ETH since mid-2025, modeling its strategy after MicroStrategy's bitcoin playbook.

The deal marks the second time the EF has sold ETH directly to a corporate treasury buyer via OTC. In July 2025, the foundation sold 10,000 ETH to SharpLink Gaming at an average price of $2,572.37, a deal worth $25.7 million.

The foundation said proceeds will fund core operations, including protocol R&D, development of the Ethereum ecosystem, and community grants. These periodic sales are governed by the EF's treasury policy, published in June 2025, which outlined a framework for the organization to periodically sell ETH to maintain a fiat-denominated operating reserve. Under that policy, the EF targets 15% of its treasury as annual operating spend with a 2.5-year runway buffer.

Ethereum and Solana Lead Developer Activity Amid Overall Decline

Artemis data shows that the Ethereum and Solana ecosystems are leading in developer activity amid a general decline in weekly code commits and weekly active developers across the crypto space. Within the Ethereum ecosystem, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is the most active, with 31,620 commits per week.

Notably, several segments within the Ethereum ecosystem currently rank among the top seven in developer activity. Meanwhile, the Solana ecosystem follows closely, with its Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) Layer 1 and Layer 2 being the most active, with 7,056 commits per week. However, the entire crypto ecosystem has experienced a significant decline.

Further Artemis data shows that weekly commits have plummeted from an annual high of approximately 870,900 in March of last year to 217,500 in February.  Of particular note is the precipitous drop in weekly commits during the infamous "October 10th" crash in the crypto market, an event that triggered the largest liquidation wave in crypto history.

Similarly, the number of weekly active developers has also declined from an annual high of 10,600 in May of last year to 4,000. This metric has been steadily declining since the October 10th crypto market crash, indicating that current price movements are impacting developer sentiment. Despite leading the pack, Ethereum and Solana have also seen declines in weekly commits and developer activity.

This time, David Schwartz, Ripple's CTO Emeritus, stepped in to address the latest accusations that the company's shareholders are being encircled at the expense of retail $XRP buyers.

The exchange kicked off when Zach Rynes, a prominent pro-Chainlink commentator, took aim at Ripple’s dual-funding model.

He posits that there is a conflict of interest when a company (in this case, Ripple) issues both equity to private investors and a token to the public. Retail $XRP buyers are actually "funding a company that has openly stated it will prioritize its equity shareholders over you."

He has challenged the community to explain why it is acceptable for Ripple to use the proceeds from selling "premined coins" to acquire other companies and fund stock buybacks.

In response, some $XRP fans have argued that Rynes was using "misleading framing." They pointed out that expecting an open network asset like $XRP to behave like traditional corporate equity fundamentally misunderstands how digital assets work.

David Schwartz then weighed in directly on Rynes's premise. Schwartz challenged the framing that this selling is inherently detrimental to investors looking to accumulate the asset.

"One could equally well (actually, equally wrongly) make the argument that all of this is great for people trying to make a profit by holding $XRP," Schwartz wrote. He explained that if the sales suppress the asset's value, "it means that they can buy at a much lower price than they would have to otherwise."
