Bridging traditional finance systems with blockchain rails remains one of the biggest operational challenges for large banks.

Morgan Stanley’s digital asset chief said demand is split between direct crypto exposure and ETFs, forcing banks to build for both.

Morgan Stanley's foray into crypto products and services is moving from the fringes into core operations, according to Amy Oldenburg, the bank's head of digital asset strategy.

"There’s an inflection point here," Oldenburg said this week in an interview with GSR. "This is starting to become ... part of the daily business operations."

Oldenburg, who took on the new role in February, oversees digital asset strategy and execution across Morgan Stanley’s institutional wealth and asset management divisions. Her approach looks to integrate crypto and tokenization into the firm’s existing infrastructure rather than treat them as standalone offerings.

"We’ve really come around," Oldenburg said, as crypto, stablecoins, and tokenized assets converge into what she described as "the same ecosystem."

Market sentiment turned risk-off after reports that extended talks in Islamabad—lasting over 20 hours—ended without progress. U.S. officials stated that Iranian representatives refused to accept proposed terms, while Iranian media blamed “unreasonable demands” from Washington.
The breakdown in diplomacy came shortly after brief optimism triggered by a proposed ceasefire timeline, which had supported a short-lived rally in risk assets. However, investors remained cautious amid uncertainty over whether a broader agreement could be reached.
Adding to market pressure, geopolitical tensions intensified after reports that the U.S. ordered heightened naval pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, raising concerns about further escalation in the Middle East.
Despite the short-term volatility, some analysts argue that the broader market structure and institutional interest in crypto remain intact, suggesting that recent moves are driven more by macro uncertainty than fundamental weakness.
