With a 14.25% weekly pullback in oil prices, risk assets may look ready for a strong week.



But if that’s the base case, it might be worth thinking twice. From a technical standpoint, the April 6-13 weekly window delivered a clear reversal in oil, while Bitcoin [BTC] closed up 2.53%, marking the first such divergence since the West Asia crisis began in early March.

On the macro side, this wasn’t random price action. The divergence came after ceasefire developments briefly pushed crypto back into risk-off territory. However, a fresh post from U.S. President Donald Trump reignited market volatility after he referenced the possibility of “blockading” the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamabad peace talks between the U.S. and Iran broke down on April 12 after 21 hours of negotiations, with both sides blaming each other for the failure. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two countries since 1979, and it ended with Vice President Vance saying Iran refused to commit to giving up its nuclear program.

Hours later, President Trump ordered a U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and oil prices jumped back above $100.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) dropped about 2% to around $71,000 and XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) fell to $1.33. But the selloff was smaller than most expected. The Bitcoin price is still above where it was before the ceasefire was announced on April 7, and the market didn't panic the way it did when the war started in late February.

Alameda moves $16 million in Solana's SOL token for possible creditor distribution


Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX's sister company Alameda Research "unstaked" roughly $16 million worth of Solana's $SOL token and moved the same to an address linked to creditor repayments, according to data source Arkham.

Unstaking refers to the process of withdrawing crypto assets that were previously locked up in a proof-of-stake (PoS) network to help secure the blockchain and earn rewards.

The latest move follows a familiar pattern: unstake coins and route them to addresses used to reimburse creditors. About a month ago, Alameda did the same, directing funds to the same distribution address. That prior move ultimately raised expectations that the funds were part of an ongoing creditor repayment process tied to the firm’s restructuring.

While there has been no formal confirmation that this specific tranche will be distributed imminently, the repetition of the pattern suggests continuity in the process rather than an isolated movement.

$SOL, the native token of programmable blockchain Solana, has a market capitalization of $47.26 billion, which makes it the seventh-largest digital asset in the world. As of writing, $SOL traded near $82, largely unchanged on a 24-hour basis, but down significantly from its all-time high of $293 hit in January last year.

Alameda, founded by Sam Bankman-Fried in 2017, began as a quantitative trading shop focused on arbitrage opportunities in digital assets, exploiting price differences across exchanges and markets.

At its peak, Alameda was a major liquidity provider across crypto markets and was deeply embedded in the ecosystem, trading billions in volume and operating across spot, derivatives, and structured products.

Alameda still holds about 3.5 million $SOL worth $294.10 million, per Arkham.

US President Donald Trump stated that Washington will increase pressure on Iran after peace talks in Pakistan stalled. The main point of contention in the negotiations centers on Tehran's nuclear program. This shift has once again brought the Strait of Hormuz—a vital oil shipping route—in the spotlight.

Following the fruitless weekend talks with Iran in Islamabad, the US announced a naval blockade against Iran. Two US destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz, and mine-clearing operations commenced. Crude oil prices surged to over $100 per barrel. Bitcoin and Ethereum both fell throughout the day.

What happened in the Strait of Hormuz?

Trump later stated that the two sides had made near progress on several issues. However, negotiations ultimately broke down due to Iran's refusal to compromise on its nuclear program. Following the breakdown, US Central Command announced a blockade of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports starting Monday. Reuters and the Associated Press both reported that non-Iranian vessels could still pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, this is not a complete blockade of all routes.

This distinction is important.

 Approximately one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil is transported through the Strait of Hormuz. Even a partial blockade can have a significant impact on fuel prices, freight costs, and inflation concerns within hours. Following the announcement, Brent crude prices surged to over $101 per barrel, and U.S. crude prices climbed to over $104 per barrel.

On April 11, the U.S. Navy destroyers USS Frank Peterson and USS Michael Murphy transited the waterway. U.S. Central Command stated that this was part of a broader operation to clear previously laid Iranian mines.

Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies fell on Sunday after Trump ordered the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a potential escalation in the U.S.-Iran conflict.

 fell 2.6% over the past 24 hours to $71,093 as of 9:28 p.m. ET on Sunday. The cryptocurrency dropped to a low of around $70,600 earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Ethereum slid 3.6% to $2,202, XRP dipped 2% to $1.33, and Solana fell 3.25% to $82. The GMCI 30 index, which tracks the performance of the top 30 cryptocurrencies, was down 2.5% in the past 24 hours.

"Geopolitical headlines dominated crypto markets today as U.S.-Iran peace talks in Islamabad collapsed after 21 hours, triggering a sharp risk-off move," said BTC Markets Crypto Analyst Rachael Lucas. 

Despite 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, U.S. and Iranian officials failed to resolve the protracted war. U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that Iranian representatives were unwilling to accept U.S. terms. In contrast, Iran's state media said the talks collapsed due to "unreasonable demands" from the U.S.

While President Donald Trump's two-week ceasefire announcement prompted crypto and other risk assets to rally last week, investors remained cautious, as a full peace deal would likely require one party to make the difficult choice of softening its stance.

The bitcoin market has faced familiar problem since prices rose above $70,000 last week: a sharp rise in profit-taking.

More than $20 million worth of BTC has been sold per hour in profit realization, according to blockchain analytics firm Glassnode.

"Every approach to the $70k–$ 80k band faces thin liquidity and profit-taking pressure, capping the bounce. Another bounce to >$70k range was exhausted by >$20M/Hour profit realization," Glassnode said on X.

The message is clear: the $70,000–$80,000 band is less a battleground of conviction and more a persistent distribution zone, as has been observed since February.

In other words, rallies above $70,000 are consistently turning into liquidity events. Instead of buyers chasing momentum higher, holders are using strength as an exit window and the result is a market where every uptick is met with an immediate counterweight of supply.

Bitcoin is struggling to build momentum above $70,000. Prices briefly touched nearly $74,000 on Saturday before slipping back below $71,000 at the time of writing, as the breakdown in Islamabad peace talks between the U.S. and Iran pushed oil higher and weighed on U.S. stock futures.

Until that $20 million-per-hour pressure eases, bitcoin’s ceiling isn’t technical, but behavioral.
