Hollywood actor Ben McKenzie is best known for his film debut in the Academy Award-nominated film Junebug (2005) and his performances in 88 Minutes (2007), Goodbye World (2013), Some Kind of Beautiful (2014), and Line of Duty (2019).

McKenzie is also known for his sharp criticism of cryptocurrencies and has even co-authored a book with journalist Jacob Silverman, Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud (2023).

He also directed a documentary, 'Everyone Is Lying to You for Money' (2025), to expose what he calls the "culture of hype, misinformation, and speculation" that fuels crypto's rise.
On Aug. 14, McKenzie appeared on The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart and blasted Bitcoin (BTC). In a wide-ranging discussion featured on The Other Side of Bitcoin: Crypto Corruption, McKenzie laid out a blunt case.

The crypto industry, in his view, is less about innovation and more about systematic wealth transfer fuelled by hype, confusion, and weak oversight.

Cardano's Charles Hoskinson says Bitcoin's quantum fix is a hard fork that can't save Satoshi's coins

Bitcoin's core developers earlier this week proposed freezing 8 million coins to defend against quantum attackers.

But Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson believes it still can't save coins belonging to the network's pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto, per a video posted to his YouTube channel late Wednesday.

Hoskinson said Bitcoin's proposed defense against quantum computers is both technically mislabeled and structurally incapable of protecting the network's oldest coins, including the roughly 1 million bitcoin attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto.

He argued that BIP-361, the proposal from developer Jameson Lopp and others to phase out quantum-vulnerable bitcoin addresses, is being presented as a soft fork but would functionally require a hard fork because it invalidates existing signature schemes that users are actively relying on.

"To actually do this, you need a hard fork," Hoskinson said. The distinction matters because Bitcoin's development culture has historically opposed hard forks, viewing them as violations of the network's immutability. BIP-361 authors have described the proposal as a soft fork, a characterization Hoskinson called a lie.

A soft fork tightens the rules so old software still works but can't use the new features. A hard fork changes the rules so fundamentally that old software stops working entirely and the network splits unless everyone upgrades.

BIP-361 suggests that users with frozen quantum-vulnerable funds could reclaim them by constructing a zero-knowledge proof tied to their BIP-39 seed phrase, a standard for generating wallet keys from a recoverable phrase.

On April 14, Goldman Sachs, the 7th-largest asset manager in the world with $3.65 trillion in Assets Under Supervision (AUM), filed for a Bitcoin ETF with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Goldman Sachs seeks Bitcoin ETF approval
Known as the Goldman Sachs Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, the product focuses on generating a stable yield to appeal to its older investors, hence the nickname “boomer candy.”

Rather than purchasing Bitcoin, Goldman Sachs will invest at least 80% of its assets in spot Bitcoin ETPs and other Bitcoin-linked products, such as options and indices. The fund will also generate monthly dividends for investors by selling Bitcoin call options. 

While these features guarantee a steady income and provide a cushion against market volatility, their downside is that they limit the profits the company could generate during a BTC rally.

Following a typical 75-day SEC review period, analysts estimate the ETF could launch in late June 2026.
