2,000,000% APY Trap: $6 Million Drained in Ethereum DeFi ExploitOn Monday morning, major multichain protocol Summer.fi, formerly Oasis.app, was hit by a sophisticated hacker attack. The attacker managed to drain the project's automated vaults and withdraw about $6 million in $DAI stablecoins. The incident was quickly detected by leading security firms Blockaid, PeckShield and CertiK.

The 2,000,000% trap
This hack stood out because of its abnormal mechanics. The hacker used a massive flash loan worth $65.4 million to artificially distort liquidity inside the "LazyVault_LowerRisk_$USDC" pool. This vault had been positioned by developers as a lower-risk instrument, while its security was overseen by Block Analitica.

At the moment of the manipulation, the pool's algorithms suffered a critical failure, causing the displayed yield, or APY, of the conservative vault to briefly jump to an absurd 2,080,000%. It was through this window of distorted pricing that the hacker was able to instantly withdraw user funds.

For Summer.fi, this incident continued a series of problems inside its multichain infrastructure, which spans Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum. Over the past year alone, the protocol had already faced frozen withdrawals because of the USDX stablecoin depeg, narrowly avoided an attack through the rsETH project, and blocked a malicious governance proposal at the last moment after it exploited old access permissions.

I am contemplating selling some of my bitcoin for gold, veteran trader Peter Brandt says
In the never-ending battle between bitcoin $BTC$63,043.07, the digital gold, and the traditional yellow metal, veteran trader Peter Brandt has picked a side, and it’s not the one bitcoin bulls would have hoped for.

Brandt, CEO of Factor LLC and widely followed chart analyst, said on X that he is mulling liquidating some of his $BTC and using the proceeds to buy gold, as he sees the yellow metal outperforming $BTC.

"I am contemplating selling some of my Bitcoin and going to Gold with the money. Looks to me that Gold is going to gain substantially on Bitcoin," Brandt told his followers on X.

Both $BTC and gold have recently taken a beating, though bitcoin has fared noticeably worse than the traditional safe haven metal. The leading cryptocurrency by market value slid 20% in June to below $60,000, marking its worst monthly performance in four years. Gold, by comparison, dropped 11.7% to nearly $4,000 per ounce.

The divergence looks even starker on a year-to-date basis, with $BTC down 28% in 2026 versus a 3.9% decline for gold.

Gold is holding its ground again, but this is not the same rally that carried bullion through the early part of the year. The latest move is being driven less by panic and more by repricing.

A softer US labour-market reading has reduced fears that the Federal Reserve will rush into another rate increase, giving non-yielding assets some breathing space.

Yet the dollar has not rolled over, and that is keeping gold’s rebound measured rather than explosive.

Rate relief steadies bullion

Spot gold was little changed near $4,174.66 an ounce in Asian trade on Monday, after earlier touching its highest level since June 22.

US gold futures for August delivery rose 1.5% to $4,186.70.

The metal is coming off a weekly gain of more than 2%, its first advance in five weeks.

The turn followed signs that hiring in the US economy is slowing, which encouraged traders to scale back expectations for a near-term Fed hike.

That matters because gold pays no interest. When markets price in higher rates, the opportunity cost of holding bullion rises.

When those expectations soften, gold usually gets a cushion.

The crypto market has moved from panic to stabilisation over the past week, with Bitcoin successfully defending a critical support level and recovering ground as selling pressure eased, according to Avinash Shekhar, Co-founder and CEO of Pi42.

Bitcoin’s Recovery Reveals Structural Strength

Shekhar told Coinpedia that Bitcoin’s defence of the $58,000 zone and subsequent recovery above $62,000 was not coincidental. It reflected the depth of long-term demand that continues to emerge during periods of weakness.

“The speed of Bitcoin’s recovery once again highlighted the depth of long-term demand emerging during periods of weakness,” Shekhar said. “While volatility remains part of the market, institutional participation showed signs of stabilising.”

He explained that Bitcoin continued to demonstrate relative strength within the broader market, while Ethereum maintained its position as the leading institutional smart contract platform despite comparatively softer price action.

XRP was among the week’s stronger performers, supported by continued optimism around institutional adoption and ETF participation. Dogecoin also participated in the broader recovery, illustrating that improving confidence tends to extend beyond Bitcoin into established alternative assets as conditions stabilize.

The Fed Is Now Driving Crypto As Much As Crypto-Native Events

A central theme in Shekhar’s analysis is how deeply macroeconomic forces are now shaping digital asset prices. The Federal Reserve dominated investor attention throughout the week, with markets focused on the prospect of rates staying higher for longer and watching labour market data and upcoming inflation readings for signals on the timing of future monetary policy decisions.
