Crypto isn't the problem with the US economy, says senatorCody Carbone, CEO of the cryptocurrency advocacy group The Digital Chamber, received a largely muted response to his testimony at a Senate Banking Committee hearing on affordability.

In a Tuesday hearing titled The Affordability Agenda, Carbone said that the digital asset industry could help solve affordability problems in the United States, including through faster and cheaper transactions, putting "competitive pressure" on existing payment systems, and reducing barriers to "owning and transferring assets."

However, the majority of lawmakers present did not question Carbone directly or inquire about digital assets, with the exception of Indiana Senator Tim Banks and Louisiana Senator John Kennedy. Banks asked the Digital Chamber CEO about the costs related to foreign remittances compared to US dollar-pegged stablecoins, while Kennedy largely dismissed Carbone's testimony.

"Mr. Carbone, you seem to be here to promote cryptocurrency," said Kennedy. "I love cryptocurrency, but I don't think that's the problem with our economy."

Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, Gary Peters, Richard Durbin, and Ron Wyden requested that multiple Senate committees hold hearings on a deal in which lieutenants to an Abu Dhabi royal signed a deal with the Trump family to purchase a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for half a billion dollars.

The deal closed four days before President Trump's inauguration last year, the letter said, adding that as part of the agreement, foreign buyers reportedly paid $218 million upfront to entities tied to the Trump family and Steve Witkoff, President Trump's lead diplomat for the Middle East and Russia.

The arrangement was reportedly backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor. This "marked something unprecedented in American politics: a foreign government official taking a major ownership stake in an incoming U.S. president's company," according to the letter.

On-chain data and market analysis company CryptoQuant argued that Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, should temporarily pause its Bitcoin purchases and focus on replenishing its dwindling cash reserves. A report published by the company’s research director, Julio Moreno, stated that increasing dividend obligations, a declining cash position, and growing unrealized Bitcoin losses pose risks for investors.

According to the report, Strategy’s preferred stock, STRC, fell to $82.50 last week, dropping 17.5 percent below its nominal value of $100. Moreno stated that this decline was due to the bear market pressure on Bitcoin coupled with a sharp drop in the company’s cash reserves.

The analysis highlighted that Strategy recently repurchased $1.5 billion worth of its 2029-maturity, zero-interest convertible bonds, reducing its cash buffer that could be used to support dividend payments. It noted that the company’s cash reserves have declined by approximately 38 percent since the beginning of 2026.

Mastercard opened its card-settlement network to stablecoins across eight blockchains, and Japan's three megabanks formed a joint stablecoin council.

None of that has translated into net new issuance from the two assets that account for the bulk of the market. $USDC and $USDT together hold roughly $261 billion in circulating supply, per DefiLlama. Based on the price action, further bearish continuation appeared likely. Such a continuation may have already begun over the past 24 hours. The DeFi token shed 5.74% in 24 hours, and its daily trading volume was up 23%. Additionally, the Open Interest has crept lower by 6.20%.

Together, the volume signs point toward intensifying selling pressure. Examining longer-term price trends can help explain why AAVE is likely to trade at lower levels in the coming weeks.

Reasons why AAVE bears are in control
Recently, AMBCrypto reported a Grayscale Research prediction that Aave could trade at $175. The report suggested that the token was currently fairly priced based on the conventional discounted cash flow [DCF] analysis.

However, in the scenario where regulatory clarity accelerates tokenized asset adoption, AAVE’s price could go to the aforementioned target.The price structure was bearish on the 1-day timeframe after breaking the $85.05 low toward the end of May [orange]. The OBV has been in a downtrend in 2026, with some gains made in April and May. This indicated a brief spurt of buying, but not enough to change the long-term trend.

The $77.95 and $51.81 levels were key horizontal ones from the previous cycle. They served as support back in 2023 and 2024, but the former was tested as resistance in recent days. AAVE faced rejection at $78 and is likely to go towards $50 next.
