Challenge Bitcoin drops toward $62,000 as the chip selloff deepens for a second dayBitcoin fell toward $62,000 on Wednesday as a second day of heavy selling in technology stocks kept pressure on risk assets worldwide.

The token traded around $62,546, down 2.1% over 24 hours and 4.9% on the week, per CoinDesk data, sliding back toward the lower end of the range it has held all month.

The selling was steep across the board. Ether dropped 3.7% to $1,661 for a 7.2% weekly loss, XRP fell 2.2% to $1.10 and is down 9.3% on the week, solana lost 3.3% to $69 and dogecoin slid 9.8% over seven days. Hyperliquid's HYPE was the worst hit, down 8.8% on the day and 18.6% on the week to about $61. Tron held up best, up 3.7% on the week.

The pressure came from the same place as Tuesday. A renewed rout in semiconductor shares, the stocks that have led this year's market with triple-digit gains, sent the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index down 7.9% on Tuesday, with all 30 members falling.

Crypto markets entered a tighter liquidity environment after the Federal Reserve held rates steady while signaling a firmer stance on inflation. Wintermute, a crypto market maker and liquidity provider, said the shift created a more challenging backdrop for digital assets reliant on sustained capital inflows.

Referring to the Fed’s policy shift and its implications for capital flows into digital assets, Wintermute wrote:

“For an asset class that needs liquidity arriving through ETFs, stablecoins and DATs, a Fed leaning toward tightening is the opposite of what gets those funnels flowing.”

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) channel institutional capital into crypto markets, stablecoins provide dollar-linked liquidity used for trading and settlement, and digital asset treasuries commonly refer to corporate or institutional balance sheets allocating funds to crypto. Tighter monetary policy typically raises borrowing costs and reduces risk appetite, which can slow inflows across all three channels.

Federal Reserve officials, at Kevin Warsh’s first meeting as chair, removed any easing bias and shifted projections toward tighter policy. The median 2026 rate outlook rose to 3.8% from 3.4%, with nine of 18 policymakers now expecting at least one hike this year and 17 flagging upside inflation risks. Markets reacted quickly, pushing December hike odds to about 77% from roughly 24% a month earlier.

Officials also shortened the policy statement to 130 words from 341, reinforcing the sharper change in tone. Brent crude fell 8.2% during the week on expectations tied to a reopening of the Strait, yet Wintermute noted that the Fed’s inflation concern appeared broader than energy

eyes crypto perpetuals as Kalshi upends futures marketCBOE has begun evaluating a conversion of its Bitcoin and Ether futures into perpetual contracts after crypto perpetuals generated more than $8.5 billion in trading volume on Kalshi within weeks of launch.

According to a June 23 report from The Wall Street Journal, CBOE Global Markets is considering turning its continuous Bitcoin and Ether futures into perpetual futures following recent regulatory developments in the United States.

The report cited Rob Hocking, CBOE's global head of derivatives, who said the exchange is exploring the possibility after the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission approved cryptocurrency perpetual futures for prediction market operator Kalshi.

While Hocking did not provide a timeline for any changes, the comments place one of the largest U.S. exchange operators among a growing list of firms responding to fresh competition in the perpetual futures market.

CBOE introduced its continuous Bitcoin and Ether futures contracts in December, offering products with expirations extending as far as 10 years.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the exchange is now studying whether perpetual contracts could provide an alternative structure following the CFTC's decision to permit similar products on regulated U.S. venues.
