According to reports on recent campaign spending, crypto political action committees have increased their activity ahead of several Democratic primaries while lawmakers continue negotiating the CLARITY Act in Washington.



Among the largest beneficiaries is Maryland State Delegate Adrian Boafo, who is seeking to succeed retiring Congressman Steny Hoyer in Maryland’s 5th Congressional District. Protect Progress, an affiliate of Fairshake, has spent roughly $5.5 million supporting Boafo’s campaign, making him one of the most heavily funded crypto-backed candidates in the current election cycle.



Facing more than 20 Democratic opponents, Boafo currently leads prediction market rankings. His campaign has also secured endorsements from Hoyer, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and Senator Angela Alsobrooks. Alsobrooks has been involved in discussions surrounding federal digital asset legislation, including both the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act.



Commenting on his policy priorities, Boafo has also positioned himself as a supporter of digital asset and blockchain policy initiatives.

One thing I’ve come to realize after spending years in crypto is that we’re obsessed with momentum. That includes me. Maybe it’s because many of us entered the space through stories of life-changing gains. Maybe it’s because crypto moves at a pace unlike any other industry. Or maybe it’s simply because we’ve been conditioned to measure success through charts, market caps, user growth, and whatever narrative happens to be dominating the conversation at the time.

Regardless of the reason, I’ve done some reflection and come to realize that we should start valuing longevity more than temporary momentum.

Before you say that’s coping, hear me out.

Momentum Is Easy To See

The thing about momentum is that it’s impossible to miss. When a project has momentum, everyone knows it. User numbers are growing, developers are joining, influencers are talking about it, and the charts are usually moving in the right direction. Momentum creates excitement. It creates optimism. It creates the feeling that you’re part of something important and growing. That’s one of the reasons we value it so much. It’s visible, measurable, and constantly reinforced by the people around us.

Longevity, on the other hand, is much harder to appreciate. Not many get excited because a blockchain successfully completed another protocol upgrade. Very few rush to social media because a team improved developer tooling or because a governance process worked exactly as intended. These things often happen quietly in the background, receiving little attention outside of the people directly involved. Yet over time, they become part of the foundation that allows an ecosystem to continue evolving long after the initial excitement has faded.

Telegram reached 1 billion monthly active users in March 2025, marking a 2,757% increase from 35 million users at launch in 2014. The result is the largest consumer-facing crypto distribution channel ever assembled inside a single app, where users can send money, buy digital goods, and interact with decentralized applications without downloading anything extra.

From a Banned Token to a Billion-User Blockchain
The story starts with a legal setback. The Open Network began life as the "Telegram Open Network," a Layer-1 blockchain unveiled by Telegram's founders in 2018 to extend the app beyond messaging. After the SEC challenged Telegram's 2018 private token sale, a US court blocked distribution of the original "Grams" token in 2020, and Telegram formally withdrew.

That separation proved temporary. Independent developers revived the codebase as "The Open Network," and a community-run TON Foundation brought the mainnet online while Telegram continued separately as a company.

The reunion happened in stages. In January 2025, the TON Foundation announced that TON became the exclusive blockchain infrastructure powering Telegram's Mini App ecosystem. Toncoin became the only cryptocurrency accepted for non-fiat payments for Telegram services, including Telegram Stars, Telegram Premium, Telegram Ads, and Telegram Gateway. Toncoin also became the only currency used to pay Mini App developers and channel owners for earned Stars and advertisement revenue.
